Had Xmas dinner tonight there were20 of us.There was miscommunication between staff and ourselves but putting that aside the food was gorgeous.Good portions and hot.I agree that the staff are young but they did a great job considering the pub was packed with different parties.I would definitely come and enjoy a meal here again.well done to all the kitchen and waiting staff you don’t get enough credit

The staff are too young and they aren’t customer friendly. No welcome just a dazed look. Also waiting staff are way to young and zero personality. Other than that the food was delicious great portion sizes. There were rumours of you serving child portions. I clarified that they were wrong. Great outdoor space. Parking has become limited. Would come back as it’s my local. Just tweaks need to be addressed.

We chose to eat there as it was close to our hotel after visiting Thorpe Park.We had booked via website for 8:15pmOn arrival we went to the bar and spoke to a young lady about our booking who looked completely unaware of it and the the first thing that was said to us very bluntly was by a man behind the bar you do know about the 9 o'clock rule don't you " no hello no can I help you nothing. (We had our 12 year old son) we explained why we had booked here and that there was nothing on the booking site and as we're not local knew nothing of this. He then went into the kitchen and came out and said ok we can seat you. We ordered on the app and the food and drinks came out fairly quickly. We felt very uncomfortable and when our eldest son (23) had started eating the second chicken breast of his hunters chicken it was raw in the middle. The rest of our food was OK but how can you mess up scampi and chips. Our other son had hunters but didn't notice anything wrong. We didn't complain as it was close to 9 o'clock and didn't order pudding believing we had no time an was expecting to be kicked out at 9. Although we did see another family there had a lot younger children order pudding at 8:45. We finished our food and just left. The whole experience was uncomfortable and won't go back which is a shame as it looked a nice place"

Having read (mostly) good things about this place and wanting to try somewhere new, we were really looking forward to eating here. When we walked in, I immediately felt it was a lot louder than expected and could do with a clean. There were a couple of groups of people in the pub being seriously loud as well - far louder than the music or general atmosphere!! For a Thursday evening, that was pretty unexpected. The drinks were decent enough and the staff were perfectly friendly. They could definitely do with some more beers on tap - especially in this era of being spoilt for choice by craft beer! When ordering at the bar though and also at our tables, there were a lot of fruit flies around which is never pleasant. When we went to order our food, we were irritated to find that there was no fish (so no fish and chips which half of us were ordering) and they couldn’t use the hob (so couldn’t cook eggs for the full English breakfast). Having read a lot of reviews saying that people had had problems with certain food items not being available, I was really hoping they would have sorted this out. Sadly not, so we were really disappointed. I think my father in-law was given some extra bacon as an apology, but sadly that doesn’t much make up for not being able to eat what we were after.Probably the most disappointing thing was when the food arrived. After reading one review about “great portions”, we were left wondering if we’d come to the wrong place. The portions were really small compared to other places like this. Granted they are cheap - and they really are cheap - but we would have much preferred to pay a couple of pounds more for a decent serving. I was pleased I’d ordered a side of cheesy chips, but even these were pretty lacking on the size!! The quality of the food really was good, so we had no complaints there, but we were just left feeling pretty hungry. As a result, we ordered a couple of big desserts. These were a pleasant surprise, as they were a really good size and again, they were really tasty.Of course, the pub can’t do a great deal about the clientele so can’t be blamed for that, but that would unfortunately put me off going back any time soon. It’ll sound really snobby reading this, but we are not snobs in the slightest!! We just don’t tend to enjoy places where people make a point to shout as loud as they can at people standing right next to them, looking to fight with every other person who walks past. Again, not the pub’s fault, but a shame. If they ordered more of a stock of the food that seems to be often unavailable and perhaps increased the portion sizes on certain dishes (even if that means increasing the prices slightly), we’d give it another chance some time. Sadly though, for our joint birthday celebrations, this probably was not the best place to choose!! Let’s hope for an improvement in future, and thanks to the staff for being more friendly than the other guests were!

When the waitress comes over 5 minutes into your starter and asks if we what our mains, you know the food is going to be rubbish. My partner is a chef, and I work in hospitality . How it works in most places I worked is when the waiting staff take your starter plate back is when the chef is meant to start your main!! Not here our food had obviously sat under a hot light for a good 20 minutes and when I said my food was cold they just took it away with out saying a word and then came back with an over cooked steak, still not saying a word. We had no check back. I had to find someone to say my steak was cold on the inside. I would not recommend here at all this is the second time we have been here and they never have a full menu there is always something missing, and even though the food was OK the 1st time we came we end up with like our 3rd choice.

My husband and I had an afternoon lunch. We often come here as we find food is freshly cooked , staff are helpful and friendly. Since the place has been renovated it gives a warm and friendly atmosphere and lots of seating outside.Prices are affordable with ongoing deals.

Really lovely pub which has been recently refurbished. It looks really nice and fresh, lots of space. Had booked a table which was fortunate as very busy. We ordered from our table and the service was so quick. Excellent experience!

Popped in recently for some food & drinks as I had a Sizzling Pub voucher to use up. I’ve not been here in years, must be 7/8 and it’s pretty much the same just with the added benefit of the outside all-weather area which they’ve made a good job of!To be fair for what it is, it’s pretty good. A locals pub with a Skillet menu that pretty much everyone likes. They were sold out of some ingredients so we just had the same - x2 Sirloin steaks with Diane sauce plus dirty chips. Not bad for the money at all.Big screens for the football/sports/racing,

Good for a reasonable meal and drink. Very unclean. Sadly the pub is extremely dirty. Should not be serving food in such an unkept way. Spider webs everywhere on rafters and overhead. If environmental health came in it would be quite shocked by the hygiene. Don't think I will go until it has a deep clean and refurbishment of decor. Very poor. A real shame because it could be a lot better. Disappointing. The recent refurbishment has vastly improved the pub and restaurant. It was extremely busy with customers young and not so young. Really like the outside garden and seating areas. Bar staff told us some food was off the menu which was considerate and enjoyed the food that was available. Bar man offered us 2 alcohol free bottle lagers as a good will gesture which was kind and generous. The decor inside the pub was very nice and comfortable and cosy and cleanliness was superb. Well done Sizzling pubs we will look forward to our next visit. Keep it up!
