We stayed one night at a room above the pub and also enjoyed a fabulous dinner. 10mins walk to cathedral. Our room was small but elegant and comfortable.The pub is closed in the morning but muffins and coffee is made available in the room, a nice touch.

The food is unbelievably delicious! We had a rabbit pie with triple cooked chips. The place is a little gem with its stunning, eclectic pub decor; is dog friendly, quite close to the high street but you need your GPS to find it.

Spent a great deal of money here on several occasions and received the most unfriendly service from one particular member of staff who was so rude we will not be returning for a long time. Was very embarrassed as a large group of friends had travelled a long distance to meet here.

Great pies. I had venison and bacon. My wife had another one I forget but we both cleaned up! Great food. Incredible service with a smile right when you walk in. Awesome vibe too, well decorated place. Oh and a great mojito also.

Lovely hotel, the room was spotless and perfectly sized. All the staff were very friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely walk into town. Will definitely be returning

Giving The King Alfred 5 stars for the perfect lunchtime service we received yesterday. Food was good with a fair selection for vegans. A great pub in a great location.

The staff are excellent and the ambience/feel of the place always good. Always had a good meal here and the bar is also good with a good choice of draught for example. Highly recommend.

Popped in here for a quick pint on a visit to the area. Was nice to find somewhere local and friendly which also wasn’t too far from the station.A bit of a shame that food wasn’t possible past about 6 on a Sunday, but that’s fairly standard in pub I guess.The first ale I had didn’t taste great so I took it back and the barman happily replaced it with something else.It was a nice visit to the pub and it had a nice relaxed feel to it. Would be a nice cosy spot in winter and it seemed to have a nice big garden too, although we sat inside.
