St Mary of Charity Church

This lovely church was visited some time ago but it is still in my mind to return for a longer visit because it is so fascinating - I will try and get a guided tour to learn even more next time. The wall paintings, on the pillars, are just too good...

Popped in here because one of my my granddaughters, visiting from the Caribbean, was fascinated by the church spire. Ended up spending over an hour here. They were very interested in our some of the Memorial stones in the church were. Then we discovered the church trail for8_12 Yr old and they enjoyed competing the questions. Judging from their visitor book comments they thought it was wonderful.

Really wonderful interior and stunning steeple set in classic Victorian graveyard..Worth a visit..Has a donate what you can contactless payment machine.

We went to the church, inside there were students celebrating and singing carol's. It was magical.

Lovely church in town centre. Has live music events and gatherings. Bell ringers on Wednesday evenings. History information around the church yard available

Amazingly gorgeous with tall spire that can be seen for miles. Part of a once larger religious community around Faversham Abbey established by King Stephen and dissolved by Henry VIII. It's listed Grade 1 under English Heritage. King Henry is supposedly buried here?! Check out the painted pillars, a medieval rarity.

Beautiful, unique parish church. Welcoming atmosphere with many entertaining events going on, apart from usual services. Highly recommended

Largest parish church in Kent - of great architectural interest with a fine churchyard. Amazing spire!

Fantastic old church, still got all the old features to look at. The members of the church I met and spoke with were more than happy to answer any questions I had. If you like old buildings this is a great place to go to, would be more than happy to visit again.

I visited Faversham on Saturday 10 September 2022, for a short visit enroute to Whitstable.The coach drop off point was near the market area, which was a little depleted ,I presume as it was in the mourning period for Queen Elizabeth. The walk to the church was down the appropriately named Church Rd and even I have reduced mobility, only took around 5-8 minutes.The way in is through the graveyard which had some obviously ancient and interesting looking stones and monuments.There is a ramp into the church as well as a short flight of steps with handrail.There are some beautiful stained glass windows and also an unique painted pillar near the transept which dates from the Middle Ages. According to Father Simon (sorry I'm a Catholic!), this was probably painted over in the time of the Dissolution of the monasteries.I had quite a long chat with the priest about his ministry in Faversham and how despite the town being pretty, it still had its share of poverty and difficult issues, which the church is trying to address.On the way out,I noticed 2 large sofas facing each other and a sign welcoming everyone into the church. This seemed apt, as during my visit, 3 teenage lads came in to pray for Queen Elizabeth. Never seen that before!I want to commend both Father Simon and local volunteer Pamela for making me feel most welcome in this church.
