The Plough Inn
Nice little country pub set in a little village. Cold aston is set between Gloucester, Cheltenham, Bourton - on - the - Water which are also nice places to visit.. We didn't have food here as they were busy with Bike Nite which is nice for them to support. There is plenty of seating inside and outside nice little outdoor area.. Didn't find staff very welcoming but as said they were really busy.. Will go again to try food

Cold night so looked forward to a warm welcome. Instead freezing cold. Staff messed around with radiator controls but over the evening no heat was forthcoming. Out of stock of chosen wine. Red alternative was cold. Asked for bbq sauce on side but meal still came with sauce spread all over. Attempted to overcharge us for one of the meals, twice. Still had nerve to charge 10% service charge. Absolutely no apologies from waitress or manager. Log burner shown radiating heat on web site not lit. Obviously reliant on their niche menu with local grown beef. No vegetarian choice and fish alternative was just tuna.

Stayed a couple of weeks ago, weird experience! Nice rooms, coffee maker in rooms, asked if we could have pods for them, one of the older members of staff said that she would sort it out but didn't bother to. Food menu very limited, they offer lots of steaks but many were sold out. Settled for rumps, one of the three much smaller than the other two, same price though. Fish cooked nice but over all expensive for what they offer.Next morning went to the dinning room for breakfast, as directed by staff the evening before. Could not find anyone about, eventually knocked on the kitchen door but the chef ran out the back door, thought it was rather odd. Waited a bit longer, saw the chef and again knocked on the door whereby he ran outside again! My husband ventured around the back to find him and said that our stay included breakfast and was told that there were no hotel staff about. We were on a tight schedule so had to leave without the other half of our bed and breakfast stay! We were categorically told that breakfast was between 9 and 10am, we left at 9:25 without any representative being available!

I stayed here with my husband in June and we had the most amazing time. We were doing a road trip through the Cotswolds and needed a place to stay and this was the perfect find. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and the food was absolutely incredible. The room was so nice and clean and we would definitely return again.

I dined here with 5 friends recently, having heard the pub had re-opened with a a focus on my favourite meal - steak. What a disappointment! We ordered 5 fillets, they only had 3. We ordered 2 sirloins instead, they only had one. So a final rump was ordered. Not exactly a good start. By the way, the choices for the non steak lovers was essentially a fish - the social media advertised pork and vegetarian dishes were not on the menu. When the steaks finally arrived, they were cooked to the chef's liking, not as we had ordered. The rump in particular was all but raw and practically inedible - the dog enjoyed it though. They tried to over-charge us for wine - this was corrected when we noticed. The atmosphere was soulless - if the place had only re-opened a few days previously, I would have expected a few more diners - perhaps word had got round already about the food? Maybe things will improve - a supply of meat and a competent chef maybe? In the meantime, we will eat elsewhere.

The plough Inn has been pretty bad lately for food but atmosphere and service was still incredible! But now it’s changed hand to nick all three: the food, service and atmosphere are top notch!! Had a sirloin steak and being completely honest was the best steak I’ve had, came out quick, tasted amazing, definitely be back again! Just to make it clear I’ve never put a review on anything ever as it’s to much effort but this place is worth it!!!!

Stayed overnight after a day in very nearby Bourton on the Water. The road I took to reach the Inn was very narrow but had lots of places to tuck into to let others get past etc. Fab views. At the Inn I parked with ease on the road alongside other cars. Told beforehand there are no parking restrictions or street lamps so if like me you pop to your car later on take a torch as it's pitch black. If like me you star gaze pack your binocs. I wasn't disappointed. Nice outside patio. Really nice interior. Very charming and welcoming. My room was reached by an outside door in an attached building steps from the patio and bar, up some stairs. It was set up for 2 guests although there was just me. I was impressed with my room. Dinner and breakfast were very nice. Clearly quality produce and reasonable prices. Good service. Pub was lively in the evening but the bar was not open late late" like some places. So nice and quiet. I did mention at check out that I had no toiletries in my room and the owner was genuinely apologetic for their oversight. I had my own so not major for me. All in all a very nice experience. My emails were answered very quickly!"

Staying at campsite near by so popped in for a drink to check out menu and book for tonight 21/10. Good job we booked even though it was a thurs as we wouldn’t have got in. Bar lady during both days was so welcoming and friendly . This carried on to the staff at night. Food (bbq board for 2) was outstanding. Lovely place and very dog friendly. Thanks.
