Overall, I would wat here again. Customer service was phenomenal. The ladies may me feel warm and welcomed. They explained the menu and knew their stuff. The restaurant was cleaned and atmosphere was good. The food wasn't terrible, but the amount of oil made me pause slightly. The steak was cooked well and was tender. The accompany fried oysters was salty. The broccoli was good, but was also swimming in oil. The chocolate mousse was nice.

Second time visiting, first time visit was amazing! The food was really good! Hard to imagine what it taste like from the menu thus a bit surprise but in an absolutely good way! However second visit was during happy hour where the oyster was only £2. BUT for just four oysters we have waited for longer than half an hour. Which really pushes me off, doubt this special price worth the long wait. Can’t recommend more on the food but please be ready for the WAIT.

Tucked away in the heart of Edinburgh, The White Horse Restaurant is a gastronomic delight that embodies the essence of fine dining. The ambiance effortlessly blends historic charm with contemporary elegance, setting the stage for a memorable evening. Every dish served is a testament to the chef's prowess, with a menu that left us thoroughly impressed and craving more. Their cocktail offerings are equally commendable, each crafted with a finesse that matches the culinary delights. What truly sets The White Horse apart, however, is its impeccable service. From the moment we stepped in until our departure, the staff exuded warmth and professionalism, ensuring our evening was nothing short of perfect. For those seeking an exceptional dining experience in Edinburgh, The White Horse Restaurant is not to be missed.

We visited The White Horse, enticed by its reputation as an excellent spot for seafood and oysters, our favorites. Despite boasting an 'Oyster Happy Hour,' the selection was limited to just three types of oysters, though each was admittedly of good quality. The oysters, while limited in variety, were well-executed, and the staff was commendable. The Crab Scotch Egg and the fish were enjoyable. However, the Charred Octopus was a disappointment. We expected a texture similar to crab legs – easy to chew and almost melting – but found it unusually firm, more akin to chicken. It was only after expressing our concerns to the waiter that we learned of its unique Scottish origin from St. Andrews, which accounted for the different texture. Had we been informed beforehand, we might have approached it with a more open mind, rather than comparing it to our usual expectations.

Background:A seafood restaurant located in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town.Ambience:The interior is pleasant, with a cosy and intimate feel.Service:The service was average, with room for improvement. While the waitstaff is friendly and attentive, there are some areas where the service could be improved. For example, we were not offered a bigger table despite having no new patrons coming in. We had a few plates too many for our tiny table, which left us rushing to finish our meal.Food:The food was good, with a focus on fresh and locally sourced seafoodOverall:It is a good seafood restaurant in Edinburgh, offering fresh and flavorful dishes. It would be even better if the service were more robust

Food was excellent, nice pairings.Service was very slow though and we asked two waiters for the bill as the first one never came back. A bit on the price side but worth it as a treat once in a while. We also got the straw fries which were nice just the portion was quite small so happy we also ordered the bread with seaweed butter.

Great dining experience at this place. Seafood platters were really good both the cold and hot. The scallops deserve mention as it is cooked just right. Lobsters were not large but good sized. The only gripe were on the oysters. They were real small and found the salt water soaking the fresh oyster to be a tad over whelming.Wine list was adequate.

Recommended by a friend to visit here and we were not disappointed. Staff were very friendly and recommended the right amount of dishes (3/4 per person). The flavours were out of this world. I recommend the crab scotch egg, prawn and lobster toast, tempura prawns, crab straw fries, and the sourdough bread with garlic and seaweed butter. Everything paired so beautifully, and the oyster was my husband's first and he was very impressed. We booked the night before and were surprised to get a table, I would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. We will definitely be visiting here again on our next trip, a brilliant restaurant.

The ratings are clearly buoyed by an easily impressed tourist crowd. If you really appreciate seafood and good service, then an experience like ours will disappoint. We found the service to be poor: impersonal, rude, and disinterested in putting things right. There was an arrogance to some of the staff that was off-putting and got our backs up. Other staff looked seriously stressed. The claim of being a tapas-style" of food service rang hollow when poorly prepared dishes arrived to the table cold or lukewarm. Incredibly
