We visited as part of a U3A t trip, private visitors must phone before expecting a tour. The yard is a bit of a step back in time to the days when boats and ships were made from wood. It's main business is in repairing those that still exist, but they also have workers with skills in many other boatbuilding techniques, and production facilities to match. A great day out for we who got the bosses personal tour!

Never a disappointing view walking around Gloucester docks

Worth a little walk down to see them refurbishing an old boat.

A small but very interesting shipyard in Gloucester Dock. Nielsens specialise in traditional shipbuilding, repair and restoration and although there is no public access to the shipyard a lot of the work they do can be seen from the footpath. There are two dry docks adjacent to the path, there are always interesting and often historic vessels to be seen in them and tall ships are frequent visitors. Well worth a look if you're in the area. Plenty of coffee shops nearby and Gloucester Quays shopping centre is a 5 minute walk away. Park in the Peel Centre car park, free for 2 hours or in the Dock pay and display car park.
