Dobbies Garden Centre Shepton Mallet

I have been here before and it wasnt great then, it does get busy times but today was not good. 30 to 40% of the tables had left overs on them, tables not wiped or the seats. To be honest it was disappointing and disgusting. There was two younger ladies on the till and coffee moaning about the older one serving food and making a mess. As soon as the older one finished serving food she was out clearing tables while the other two chatted. Hygiene sprang to mind serving food and cleaning tables but fair play to the older woman, she worked her backside off. The toilets were absolutely awful, the stank and the sink was disgusting with dirt and hair in them. The notice board for cleaners was unmarked with a comment to say speak to staff if dirty, really. Shame because that used to be a nice place. In my mind let the older woman run it.

Great for plants. But food service was so slow by the time we paid it was already getting cold. Then the wait for cutlery was even longer. The food, no fish left. So had sausage chips peas carrots. Carrot were hard an cold as we're the peas as they had been u der the sun lamps too long, yuk. Chips OK but cold. Sausages actually okay but hard to cut. Disorganised staff I think was the problem. Wouldn't recommend fir food at £32 for 4 simple meals

Recently visited for lunch. What a awful experience. Hardly anything left for lunch (it was lunchtime) staff couldn't be bothered, moaning etc. Where they served our coffee, there was spilt milk on the counter but just pushed our cups through it. I ordered an egg sandwich, my husband a coronation chicken. They used the knife on my husbands sandwich to cut mine. Good job I'm not vegetarian! The drinking glasess and cutlery were filthy. Never again, disgusting hygiene standards.

We hadn't been to Dobbies for quite a while, as we felt it wasn't as good as it used to be, particularly the restaurant, in terms of quality and cost. On our previous visit, it closed early due to being short staffed.However, we thought we'd give them another try today.As our granddaughter is staying with us atm, thought it best to let the lunchtime rush ease, so went to the restaurant at 2pm. This time, the restaurant wasn't serving hot food, due to staff shortage (This may well have been outside their control). Most of the tables had not been cleared from previous customers.Going back a few years, this was a favourite place of ours, to pop in for a spot of lunch, not any more, unfortunately.Apart from the disappointment of the restaurant, the quality of house/outside plants etc is very good. There's a large selection of garden furniture & barbecues too.The food section is good, but not cheap, as it is a Waitrose franchise.It's a shame that the tropical & marine fish section closed down a couple of years ago, this was another reason for a visit.Unfortunately, we won't be rushing back there!

Well I have to say we had a very good breakfast and the staff although under pressure were doing a great job.Its a shame the coffee machines couldn’t swap places with the hot food,from where we were stood that could help them a lot.Nice food.

Went for lunch today with our 4 year old grandson and 20 month granddaughter as we have done many times. Got there a little early to be told they didn’t serve until 11.30….no problem we looked around the store and went back. There was a lady in front of us and she got told by the same server that it didn’t open until 11.30. It was 11.30!! she then got told it would be another 15 or 20 minutes!!! Seriously what is going on? It’s seems it’s ok for a breakfast fry up to continue being served but not a sandwich! Like me the lady in front just couldn’t make sense of it. We were told it was because they were short staffed (a regular problem that doesn’t seem to get resolved from reading other reviews) With two little ones we made the decision to leave. One grandson was not happy because he knows what he wants to choose from the children’s option bar, it’s what he has been doing for the last 3 years. I would really like an explanation for this. Really disappointed

Great Garden Centre with a good range of plants, seeds and garden related products. Visiting at the end of December so not many plants ready which is to be expected.They have a really good cafe serving hot and cold food, very helpful staff. My only complaint is that there is nowhere to leave your empty cups and plates, a rack would be good as very often the tables have not been cleared from the previous customer, it’s a small complaint but easily fixed and did not cause a problem this visit.

Dobbies garden centre, a regular hunt for my wife and I, always plenty of parking, good for wheelchairs and well laid out inside. There is a restaurant were you can get good food and drink. Also has wash room, toilet too. Due to the vivid 19, as most places their rules and guide lines. Nice big area for plants ornament, plant pots ect, everything for your gardening needs. Normally have a good christmas display and a set evening for card holder, not sure what is happening this Christmas, we will have to see. All in all a nice well presented garden centre with i might add friendly staff at hand. Recommend a visit.

We visited here to buy a cache pot. Not a huge variety, but I put that down to Christmas stock taking priority. We decided to stay for a coffee and cake. Not the best idea we've had, unfortunately. There was just one member of staff making drinks and taking money, which meant a long wait in the queue. This isn't the first time we've experienced such a wait, for the same reason. A nice selection of Christmas goods, though not with the spectacular displays that some garden centres manage to create.

Very poor service, not for the second time. Table's not cleared or cleaned. Had to move them myself. Cup's were absolutely filthy. Floor was so dirty. I understand that you have staffing issues but still. Complete lack of food, even if wanted some, not that I did as wouldn't want to eat in there under those conditions. Couldn't wait to get out of there quick enough.
