Fantastic and insightful tour, with very knowledgeable guide. You do need to book tickets in advance.I have mobility issues and it's a long walk from the carpark to the main house. Am sure it would be possible to organise drop off at the entrance for less mobile visitors.Great little tea shop with delightful staff to have a snack pre or post house visit. Would definitely recommend booking a tour!

lovely house and gardens and very good guides to give you the back story and information. Surprisingly quiet when we visited as it's only open at Easter and in August I believe.

Best known as being the home of the first Duke of Wellington of Waterloo fame, this makes for a fantastic visit! Still owned by the current Duke of Wellington, this is still a family home so you will see lots of little hints of the family there! For the general public, you have to book in advance and tours do sell out as they are only open at limited times and months. They will email you over a PDF with driving instructions- please follow these to the letter! There are so many turnings and Google Maps takes you to a different entrance!Once you're parked, check in at the Visitor Centre with toilets, a cafe and a small shop and theyll explain where to meet. In the stables, there's a small exhibition on the Duke with some artifacts including his funeral carriage which is very ornate and shows you the high esteem he was held by his contemporaries. The tour covers the main rooms and offers some wonderful artwork and really great stories about not only the most famous Duke but also later ones too. Our two guides were great and very passionate. You're able to visit the grounds too and see Copenhagen's grave under a wonderfully sprawling oak.

Wonderful place. Only open when the duke is away. Its a lived in house not like the exhibit houses of the national trust and English heritage. The guides had great stories of the duke, their families and friends. Tour takes about an hour and a half and it's full of information.

Very interesting tour of the family home of the Duke of Wellington. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The exhibition about the Original Duke of Wellington his life as a military leader and then politician was very interesting. The funeral carriage is rather spectacular. Well worth a visit on one of the days in the year it is open to members of the public. No photos allowed in the house which is to be expected as it is a family home. Book tickets on line for viewing the house as numbers as limited for each guided tour.

A wonderful insight into the Wellington family estate. As the opportunity to visit is limited to a few short weeks, it was certainly worth the wait, from the stables museum with the funeral carriage right through to the Dukes Chambers. The guides are very knowledgeable and happy to share that knowledge with the group.I was so impressed I will most certainly visit next year.
