Chester City Walls
Lovely and beautiful historical walks along the walls and riverside in the oldest part of Chester. Highly recommended to stay a few days in this ancient city as there are lot to explore!

Chester City Walls
The walls surround the city, providing you with beautiful views of the spectacular city. It is approximately a 2 mile walk on uneven surfaces that include climbing stairs. I wouldn't recommend for anyone with mobility issues.

Chester City Walls
Chester city walls consist of a defensive structure built to protect the city of Chester in Cheshire, England. Their construction was started by the Romans when they established the fortress of Deva Victrix between 70 and 80 CE. It originated with a rampart of earth and turf surmounted by a wooden palisade. From about 100 CE they were reconstructed using sandstone, but were not completed until over 100 years later. The walls are now the one of the most tourist attractions in Chester City.

Entererd the wallnon east gate then walked anyi clockwise i didnt realise how much history is steeped in the chester walls and the canal and all the canals it.it must of been a critical hub of the north

I’d give it a solid 5/5! Absolutely beautiful. The city walls are surrounded by magnificent architecture, Roman artifacts and more. Not that hard to do to!

Chester City Walls
We did the walls in about 45-50 minutes, taking a more leisurely pace as we read all the signs along the way and stopped for pictures a few times.The walk is well paved, though there are stairs in places, and it's a pretty easy walk compared to other city wall walks we've done.It's extremely picturesque to do the whole loop as it passes the cathedral, racecourse, main shopping area, and more historic sites along the way. Highly recommend if in Chester as it's free and you get to see a good amount of the town.

A 2 mile walk around Chester city walls. The walls are almost complete. Start at the Roman gardens & follow the walls past the cathedral, Charles I tower, the race course, castle & back to the Roman gardens. Wonderful Victorian clock tower.

Lovely hour long walk round. Such beautiful views and little history lessons along the pathway. Really lovely building such as the cathedral. Would do it again when back in the area.

If in Chester you should try and visit the city wallAnd walk around as much if not all that you can .It’s a great photo opportunity for different pictures of the city from different angles and places.You can start and finish your walk in many different places.The wall unfortunately is not accessible at all for anyone with a need for a wheelchair or sticks with many many steps up and down around the top of the wall .Be aware also it can be slippery though out the winter period.All pictures taken by my brother on this visit.

We loved walking the wall's every morning & evening while staying in chester citycentre.Wonderful, beautiful & relaxing with lots see.Really romantic & quiet to walk in evening with your partner ☺️.
