The Gun Pub
We visited on a Friday afternoon using the function room. It was laid out for a wake following a funeral at the nearby crematorium. The quality of the buffet was one of the best I’ve experienced with a very wide choice of food. It’s a compact room and I’m guessing there were 50/60 people in attendance, but the bar area was fully staffed resulting in only a short queue. The entrance to the pub is grand.

Sunday Dinner. My wife and I went to the Gun as we had passed it several times and read the rave reviews. We turned up and entered the pub when everyone turned to stare at the newcomers. Very uncomfortable. We went into the restaurant and our order was taken quickly. Waited about 45 minutes to arrive. I had the roast chicken which was very dry and tough, suspect frozen roasted potatoes, tough Yorkshire Pudding and a small selection of veg. My wife had the minted lamb shank which had no mint. She asked twice for no peas and the waitress repeated it. When her meal arrived...loads of peas. The decor is very odd. Crystal chandeliers (which had more blown bulbs than lit ones) and modern lighting. The walls were marked and the carpet looked like it needed to be steam cleaned. Curtains were a throw back to the 50's with tie backs that restricted your ability to eat. Will we go back? Think you know the answer.

We held my sister in law's wake here for 100+ family & friends as the pub is perfectly located close to Basildon crematorium. The staff were very professional and helpful and the room, private bar and garden were perfect for mingling and sharing memories. We had a slideshow running on the large TV and played music via bluetooth from their speaker system. The buffet was generous and had good variety. Would recommend.

Had my father's wake here. Staff were efficient and friendly when organising and during event. Buffet was very varied and good quality., especially the home made cakes. Room was perfect size and nicely prepared.

We had a wake there and we were looked after by all the staff from start to finish. The food was excellent and we had many comments from family and friends on this. Thank you so much to all the staff.

We attended a funeral here and was very impressed. The room was beautiful and warm and inviting. Food was lovely, along with teas and coffees. The barman was very attentive and friendly.

We used the gun pub for our very small Wedding reception and they looked after us so well, the staff were so friendly and helpful you could not fault them, the buffet they laid on was delicious and catered for everyone they even let us come in the night before and decorate the snug that we had hired!!! All in all we had a lovely day and will always have fond memories and would definitely suggest it to any one that asked!!!

The Gun catered for my Dad's celebration of life, after his funeral.From the first time I spoke to Lynn, I knew we were in good hands. She knew her stuff and had good ideas about how to make the most of Dad's Celebration of life.Whoever I spoke to at The Gun was so helpful and friendly- from the chap who took my deposit ( who promised me my booking was reserved whilst I sorted out issues with my new bank card!!) To the lovely staff who took care of our posters when I dropped them off, and those who greeted us yesterday and manned the bar to keep people watered, always available with a smile!We don't live locally, but will return one day- and in the meantime I thoroughly recommend this lovely pub!
