Hired a van this past weekend; Easy to book, collection and drop off were smooth and I had a thorough walkthrough with a member of staff to go over any existing damage and car features which was a bonus.They charged me a few pounds worth of diesel to properly brim the tank as I’d only filled to the pump clicking - this was expected and there is a notice inside the storefront explaining this so it didn’t come as a surprise.I would definitely come back for another rental in the future.

Hired a van from Steve's to move a load of IT equipment. They were really helpful as I have found before and when they didnt have a van they asked for 15 mins and called me back with one available. There wasnt any fuss, picked up the van, did what I needed to do over 4 days or so, handed it back and that was that. This is exactly how simple hiring a van should be. No fuss and good service.

Just rented a Van from Steve's, Seemless process, easy booking and was able to extend the van rental for an additional day over the phone with no questions asked. Drop off was very easy also.Would definitely use again.

Recently, due to a bereavement, I had to make a last minute trip to London Southend Airport. Unfortunately, what few companies still operate out of Southend are only contactable through their useless websites. I thought I was going to have to rely on taxis until my husband found Steve’s Self-Hire (a family run business) on a Google search and spoke to him directly over the phone. The booking was made quickly and efficiently and I picked the car up from them, near the airport. Unlike all the other car hire companies, Steve’s Self-Hire is a much more personal service. Rather than just have the rental contract and keys thrown at me, Rick gave me an overall inspection of the car, both inside and out with everything explained to me from the opening of the petrol flap to using an automatic handbrake. Return was made easy with no problems or hidden charges, my deposit returned within a few hours of returning the car. I would highly recommend this company and especially Rick.

We've hired on several occasions from Steve's and always have great service. The most recent was exceptional, as on the day of pick up, there was an issue with the hire car, so this was swapped over to a larger vehicle at no extra charge and no fuss.

Hired a transit van for a day. Friday 16 June. From our initial contact by phone to drop off we found staff engaging, efficient and extremely helpful. There were no CDWs to sort. It was a simple transaction. They top up the fuel on return and this is charged at a fair rate. There were NO hidden extras. We accidently left an item at reception, which they had put to one side for collection. All in all, it was a great experience. The van was easy to drive with retractableside mirrors. A must in London. I dropped off the van earlier than I intended. Their gates are open until 10.30pm should you wish to avoid an early rise the following day. I will be back when the need arises. Thank you.10th August A return visit was required to move my furniture again. I was late. Transactions were as efficient as before. A different van so I had to pull the wing mirror in. Fuel cuts out when stationery, which coming out of London on a Friday afternoon, comes in handy. Left van after hours at their site and received an invoice the following morning. No hidden extras. All good. Highly recommended.

Always receive an amazing service, nice clean vehicles and they bend over backwards to help with my (frequent!) last minute requests. Been hiring here for years and cannot fault the service, prices or vans. Thank you!

A great experience using this company. Needed a car whilst mine was in the garage. When I needed an extra few days they sorted out a new vehicle with no extra fuss. Welcoming and helpful staff and great prices.The vehicles I borrowed ( 22 plate Kia Rio and 22 plate fiat 500 hybrid) both drove brilliantly and enjoyable.Wouldn't use any other vehicle hire company. Especially in the Southend area.
