Reading Guitar Repairs

My son started playing the guitar few months ago when he got a new Yamaha Pacifica for his birthday.Recently I took the guitar to Richard for a setup and change of strings.Well the difference is extraordinary.The playability and the sound of the guitar improved so much. My son is very happy with it, he plays it a lot, and we parents proudly listen. Amazing. Thank you Richard.

Richard Pilkington is a great guy - really easy to talk to about what you need or want doing to your guitar, open minded whilst being full of knowledge and experience, and generally really easy and pleasant to work with. I have been to visit him at his workshop on 2 or 3 occasions now and I've always been made to feel very welcome, nothing is ever too much trouble for Richard, and due to distance of my travel I have normally just hung around chatting with the man about all things guitars and music, whilst trying out his prototype guitar(!!!) and it always makes for a nice relaxed and productive trip! Richard is a great luthier. Whether you want a new guitar setup, an old one repaired or even a custom commission he does a great job and could not be more helpful. He recently repaired the nut on an electric guitar for me and it is better than new with a perfect action.

I asked Richard for advice on getting the best out of my 18 year old Taylor 314 acoustic guitar. After a few hours of adjustments, Richard has improved the overall sound quality AND it is much easier to play! He provided an estimate at the time and honored the price on pick up. Some months ago I acquired a small guitar made by luthier Richard Plikington.The first thing to say is that it is beautiful. With a Bear Claw Spruce top and Walnut back and sides, it has that rare quality of giving pleasure just to look at it.And this because of its classic design, balance and proportions.You can feel this to be case as it seems to fit well when you pick it up. It just nestles in your grasp.But playing it gives the real pleasure. For a small guitar, it has resonant tones and long sustain. It sounds like a big guitar and can be strident when strummed and mellow when picked.The action and neck geometry is such it feels no effort to play, with fingers fitting lightly into the frets to give a pure sound.Being small it’s an easy travelling companion; it goes with me everywhere. If you want some of this, give Richard a call. He’s your man.

Fantastic service from proper workshop where you speak to Richard who's actually doing the work on your guitar. Knowledgeable and approachable. Fast service and great communication. Reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend. The only downside is that he needs to put a sign on the door to make it easier to find him!

Richard is a real craftsman. I brought in an old beat up Yamaha and he totally transformed it. He's clearly skilled and knowledgeable but I appreciated his honesty. He gave me a few options on what he could do with the guitar and then recommended the cheapest one as being sufficient. He was right it sounds amazing and is much more playable now. Amazing service and great value!

Richard is an experienced luthier that I recommend to anyone who wants their guitar to be serviced in competent hands.He has done a few jobs for me from a 'full set-up' to repairing minor dints and I have been very happy with his work.
