Left a good job and very punctual

Came round to see what the job was, was told exactly what was required and agreed to do it for a good price. Told us he would be out on the Monday to do it. Then showed up on the Monday, us thinking he would be doing it that day but was only there to see, again what the job was again despite phoning my partner 7 times the day before to find out what we needed done. He said he would be out on the Friday to do it but never showed up. When we phoned he told us his car had broken down and again had to be reminded of the job. He said he would come on Monday, which he did an hour earlier than had planned, again asking what the job was. He told me I needed to get some things for the tiling despite the fact we had told him what he would need to get. I’m a young women and wouldn’t feel comfortable going out to get supplies as I wouldn’t know if I was getting the right thing. He then asked me to get him a hammer so I went upstairs to get it and he followed me up. (Not making accusations but it felt very uncomfortable). Feeling uneasy I phoned my partner and he was put on the phone to the guy. He then argued with my partner that he didn’t realise it was quite as much a job, despite being told numerous times. He also said this was the first time seeing the job, even though he had been out twice already to look. He then said he wouldn’t be able to get it done today. After a confrontational phone call he said we should get someone else because he’s not trained enough for this job. I do believe this man was possibly good in his time, however his memory seems to be failing him now. The whole thing felt very dodgy. We are now left with jobs that need done before we move out in a couple of days.
