Autherley Canal Junction

This is a what is termed as a STOP LOCK" here at Autherly Canal Junction which is where the Shropshire Union canal ends and then the Staffordshire and Worcester canal carries on the other side of the stop lock.Great place to watch how canal boats go through a lock albeit a small stop lock only

Moored up to spend the night, nice and quiet

A lovely place to walk your dog or cycle by the canal. Had a 2 hour walk from Pendeford, past Aldersley and almost into Tettenhall. Beautiful skies of blue, warm sunshine and dappled reflections on the water. Nice fellow, walkers about too

If you are a fan of canal junctions you will not be dissappointed. I will definitely go through it in my boat again.

What a great experience.

Autherley canal junction is the junction between the Shropshire Union canal and the staffs and Worcester canal, the junction being a stop lock with a drop of water of only a couple of inches. It can be busy here at times with narrow boats changing canals but the wait is never great. It is also home to Napton narrowboats hire fleet so is a good place to look for hire boats if that is what you are after. There is a small chandlers here with all the basics a narrowboat might need along with ice cream and light refreshments. Diesel is also available along with pump out, no elsan though. There is a waterways rubbish point and about 100 yards up from the hire fleet (on the shroppie) there is a water point.

Work on the lock gates is desperately needed but the junction is fine.

Nice place to walk and go fishing

It's a very fine canal junction, although horribly tight turn for a 60 foot boat if you're travelling north. It has waste bins. It has drinking water. A tiny pointless stop lock. And 2 boatyards. I recommend to use this junction if you're wanting to leave the Shropshire Union and join the Staffs and Worcestershire canal.

Nice and Scenic, good for a run, walk or bike ride.
