This area is beautiful, the canal at Purton has wide tow paths, beautiful open scenary. It is ideal for walks if your in the area. Great for paddle boards, canoes, Pictures and painting. Well with dropping in. No shops, no pub. Nature and birds, occasionally a canal boat.Access to the path, suitable for all.Access to Ships graveyard adjacent is not suitable for all. Marshy and wet, difficult terrain in wheelchair. Deep mud at edge of river Seven.No toilets.

Lovely tranquil and beautiful setting for this automated swing bridge, with a free adjacent car park where one can leave the car for a walk either direction along the canal. Used this as a starting point for a walk to the Purton Ship Graveyard.

Purton Upper Swing Bridge
Very picturesque with fine views across the river Severn. I enjoyed my visit to the Ships graveyard. Interesting lesson in how the railway shaped the industrial landscape.
