Stirling Old Bridge
The Stirling Old Bridge is an important part of the city’s history. It was built close to the first wood bridge built in the city, so it is not the oldest. Yet, it dates back to the 1400s-1500s. It is associated with a Sir William Wallace and the Jacobite rising. You can get a good view of the Stirling Castle on one side and the Wallace Monument on the other side. It is also a great spot to enjoy the view over the Forth River, the woods, the fall colors, and just enjoy the sun. There seems to be old cannons placed as the closing for cars traffic over the bridge, but I’m not sure. I know they were used in several places in the UK after a war. Not sure if Stirling Old Bridge is one of those places. If you are lucky enough, you might find someone around the bridge who can give you more information about the historical significance of the bridge.

If you’re interested in history and/or William Wallace this is a must do visit. What surprised me was that we seemed to be the only tourists there to visit it. While this is where a famous battle took place.

The best place in town when visiting Stirling. This is pure history. Go for the side river for better photos and angle. Can also spot William Wallace monument in the horizon.

It is part of history and a must see. Nothing glamorous but a beautiful bridge, now for pedestrians, of an area so important to Scottish history.

On 11 September 1297, the forces of Andrew Moray and William Wallace defeated the combined English forces of John de Warenne, 6th Earl of Surrey, you can taste the historic atmosphere here 8/10

The bridge of Stirling was the site of William Wallace's great victory over the English and holds an important place in Scottish history.Obviously the original wooden bridge is long gone but this stone bridge was built sometime during the 14-1500s so is an impressive age.History aside, it's a beautiful bridge and its views of the river forth are fantastic!

We visited Wallace monument in the morning. Then drove a few minutes to the old stiring bridge where the battle took place. Stirling offers a good entry to the Highland history.

This place would always get a five star for its history aspect. To visit it there's a main road you can park a car on. Plenty space for wheel chair users to cross the bridge. The forth river runs under neath the bridge. Photos attached. Just in general a lovely place to visit with the kids tell them a good Scottish history story.
