Lovely staff, always eager to help with the wide range of beers available. Theres plenty to choose from menu, starters, mains with sides and desserts.We chose just to have a few starters so opted for spicy Mexican nachos with pulled port, garlic bread and onion rings. All was tasty, hot and not over filling.

A great pub, lovely décor and good atmosphere. The staff were helpful and friendly. A very good choice of ales and other drinks. Pub grub was very tasty and good value .Would highly recommend.

Really cozy pub with good food and nice drinks/ale selection. We had the yorkshire pudding with roast beef (its a special, not always on the menu) and the chicken sandwich (fried, its on the standard menu). We ended up staying for QuizNight and had a fun time with that as well. Welcoming staff and friendly patrons too.

A very busy Sunday lunchtime was handled ever so well by the staff. The place was heaving and we had attempted to book in advance, but they don't take bookings - turn up and hope they have a table. We waited only about 10 minutes and were directed to a cosy corner seat for 5 of us. Your menus are on the table and then you order at a side-bar, next to the main bar, where you also pay up front for your order. All very efficient and it seemed to work well.Our wait-time for food wasn't excessive and we were all very pleased with quantities and the quality when it did arrive. Good food, good atmosphere and a pleasant feel to the place.

Great pub that has a unique history. Important to note, at this pub you order your food and drinks at a counter and don't have more formal service. It also gets very busy after 6:30pm, so I would recommend going early. We went here our first night in York, and they also ran out of yorkshire pudding after about 7:00pm, so again I'd recommend going early. The yorksire pudding isn't on the menu but is instead the special. I think be paid arround 13 quid for the yorkie meal and it was a very large portion and delicious. Great little pub!

I was impressed with the cozy atmosphere of the pub. The decor was warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The highlight of the meal for me was the Yorkshire pudding - it was delicious and perfectly cooked. The portion sizes were generous and the prices were reasonable. Overall, I had a great experience at Hole in the Wall and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy spot for a meal in York.

Great location, nice food, service was good, friendly staff. We left the over packed Fat Badger due to the number of people and noise and walked next door to the Hoke in the wsll. I'm glad we did. We got sat straight away, placed our order at the bar, and was served not long after. Nice, homely friendly pub.

Hadn’t been to the Hole In The Wall for food for a few years so decided to nip in for some lunch.The experience could not be faulted. Food was very reasonably priced, served hot and came fairly quickly and most importantly tasted great.The place soon filled up just after we got there but there was plenty of staff working, very efficiently to ensure wait times were low and tables were always clean.If in large groups would definitely book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Hole In The Wall
I had the best mashed potatoes I've ever had in my life here. I was sad that they had run out of yorkshire pudding meals by the time my partner and I sat down, but we got the steak pies which were excellent! The mashed potatoes were SO good, my partner wished he ordered them over his chips heheThe service for food and drink were both excellent! We very much enjoyed our time here :)
