Okay, I was not impressed with this restaurant. For starters, they messed up the booking, but in their defence, they did correct it in good time. The staff were all rush, rush, rush but seamed friendly, Well

First visit to the newly opened South Indian restaurant Elai.Upon walking in, we were met by a very welcoming host. The feel in the restaurant is intimate, but with a very family-friendly vibe. Whether it's a romantic meal or a family/friends gathering, they will cater for all.On to the food... the menu has a wonderful variety of a traditional take on South Indian cuisine, unlike any other in salisbury. The host, gave us a great introduction to what they offer and made some great recommendations, come here and try something new, and different!Presentation, service, flavours and atmosphere were perfect on the night. Food sits at a great price point as well. Thanks to all at Elai.

We had lunch at this restaurant today and it was delicious. The poppadoms did not have that greasy taste that you can get in some restaurants and the nan breads were light and melted in your mouth. You can tell when you eat the food here that it’s fresh and made with good quality ingredients. The service was lovely and friendly. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. As we were sat eating the ladies on the table near us left saying we will be back! And I will be too!

First time dining here tonight. Was not disappointed - the food was delicious and our waiter Viki was super helpful in advising on the best selection of dishes. The naan that works best with the beef (please ask as I've forgotten the name!) is a must-try; it melts in the mouth. The coconut rice was the best I have ever had. My friend had the butter chicken which she said was delicious (note: it is served on the bone, but this helps the flavours!) Ask for a lime and soda with the homemade syrup and you're in for a treat. We both had the chocolate domes for dessert and these were gorgeous. Also if you've never tried Indian coffee, make sure you do! Besides Italian, this is hands down the nicest coffee I've tasted (and I drink alot of coffee!). Service was quick and plates were pre-warmed which was a good start. Viki was just the right level of attentiveness and was quite the charmer! It got busy quick (we arrived at 6.30pm and it was pretty much full when we were eating our mains). The only thing that let it down for me was sticky tables and that there's no decor on the doors that overlook the river. Some curtains or draped fabric would be nice, and would keep out the cold this time of year. Perhaps some of the nice window paintings that some other businesses around Salisbury have opted for (like BATS on Brown Street or JAS hair on New Street) would add to the aesthetic that's existing in the wallpaper. Just a suggestion! Would absolutely recommend and hope to come back soon!

What a beautiful meal! It was opening night at Elai Salisbury. The venue was beautifully decorated, the staff were super friendly and welcoming, the food was absolutely amazing! Upmarket, flavourful southern Indian dishes, great sized portions and cooked perfectly. A heron even came to visit :)Thank you SOOO much! Can’t wait to come back!

The lamb leg was really delicious! Definitely worth the price. Other food was delicious too. Just abit cold in winter. Staff seem to be polite and friendly. Definitely coming back for lamb :)

The food was delicious (as was the cocktail) and very different from the average curry house. One complaint: we weren't warned how long it would take to get our meal (an hour on a busy Saturday night). The food is freshly made so you'd expect it to take a bit longer, but this wasn't mentioned and it would have gone a long way in managing our expectations. That said, we ordered our food then sat in the riverside garden with a drink whilst waiting, which was very pleasant. So next time (and we will return) we'll be prepared for the wait. The service otherwise was very friendly. Our table was right next to the bar which can get noisy so we'll request a table by the riverside window next time. It's great to see a new good quality independent venue in Salisbury. They just need to speed up service, or at least explain the reason it's slower than customers will expect.

Very nice new restaurant for Salisbury. Excellent food and a well rounded menu. Food is quite expensive but freshly prepared so I think it's worth the money. Situated right on the river makes for lovely summer dining out. Still very new so a little rough around the edges but when it's established I'm sure it will be perfect.

A second visit resulted in another outstanding meal with great service. The Kerala beef curry is highly recommended. If you're looking for real Indian food free from excess sugar and colouring the Elai is the place to go.

We were excited to visit this new restaurant as we heard great reviews. My family went there for a birthday lunch. The staff very kindly treated me with a birthday brownie with candle. However we were really surprised how expensive it is compared to other local curry houses. Without dessert we spent just short of £200 for 5 of us. Plus if you're not a fan of coconut milk/cream then this isn't the curry house for you.
