Golden (The Flame That Never Dies)
Interesting sculpture that lights up at night. It’s location is a little off the beaten track and can’t really be seen from the main roads. The location is enjoyable and has a couple of picnic benches.

No lights on the monument. Not much more there to see. But beautiful photos to be had from the monument and surrounding views

I love walking round here, its peaceful and my dog loves the open grass area. Its popular with dog walkers who know of this place. There are a couple of benches to sit but there are no rest rooms and no play areas for children.

Little to no litter. Good place for a walk. Picnic benches. Green space away from the road. No parking, but residential streets nearby are often suitable.

It would seem the flame has indeed died.Still a nice place for a stroll or stargazing at night due to low light pollution.

The iconic 21 metre sculpture that can be found at a small park at Chatterley Valley near Tunstall is something to be proud of, giving us a reminder of Stoke on Trent's great industrial past and it's importantance that the area once played. The more you take time to look at this sculpture, the more it captures the flame of the old blast furnace, a really good effect.Hard to believe that this artwork stands higher than the famous Angel of the North at Gateshead, yet few would have even heard of Golden.Seeing how clean this area is and what a transformation the council have made over the years is a good thing, a far cry from the days that this area was for many years - over run with travellers living among the rubbish, wall to wall slag heaps and waste ground of the former abandoned Goldendale Ironworks.Looking back, for a young kid growing up in this area, It was definitely a playground like you would not see the likes of today....One of those places with not a lot there now, but if you could see how it was, then that is really something else.

One of those land marks that thousands of people pass every day and don't know it's there or can't be bothered to stop. If you want a different view of Chatterley valley and surrounding hills give it a try.

It's a great memorial and I get that it stands on the site of former ironworks BUT it's hidden, hardly anyone knows it's there. Nowhere to park , no signposts . C'mon Stoke Council let's celebrate our heritage not hide it .
