The Phoenix Practice
Doctor Uzoka is amazing, however my experience at this practice has been tainted several times by the manner in which the reception staff address me. Today I had an anxiety attack after visiting the practice to seek emergency advice for a friend whose medication hadn't been delivered and was met with lots of resistance when it turned out a simple internet search revealed the opening times of the pharmacy. As a patient who suffers with anxiety, I did not wear a mask as it causes me to have panic attacks. However the two people behind the counter did not care to ask, and instead seized on this as a reason to ask me to leave the practice. One of the receptionists in particular was extremely rude and spoke over me and asked me to leave because I wouldn't shut up to let her speak even though she had clearly entered the conversation without realising what it was about. They made me feel like a junkie who was trying to steal meds when all I wanted was advice. I can't help but think that if I was white, then the white woman who was talking to me without a mask would not have asked me to leave for not having a mask on. She may have even believed that I was trying to help my elderly neighbour after all. But instead she treated me like I was out of control, and as if I had broken in (the door was open), and she had the same sort of alarm in her voice as someone who believes they are dealing with an angry black man. Because I didn't shut up on command like a good little coloured person she kicked me out like a dog.Luckily the pharmacy opened shortly after anyway and I was able to sort my neighbours meds out and then calm myself down from the anxiety attack that occured just after I left the surgery. If not for the fact that I have an amazing doctor at this practice I would move, as this is not the first time reception staff have been rude and accused me of being aggressive when in actual fact I am just a tanned and tall man.

I have been a patient of the practice for years, Dr Stein is incredibly kind, helpful and professional and really cares for her patients. Nurse Christine is fantastic and receptionists are kind and helpful, especially Natalia who is pure gold and goes the extra mile to assist. The new male receptionist can be rude and pointedly unhelpful but I'm sure he'll come around. It's usually very easy to get an appointment.

I just about had enough dealing with this practice. The only sensible doctor in this office is Dr Stein and I don’t even know if she still works there as it is impossible to book an appointment with her for at least 6 months now. The nerve of these people is honestly enraging. We are in the middle of the pandemic and it is virtually impossible to actually make an appointment to actually speak to a doctor. They continuously have no appointments available on the My GP app an if they do, it is only with the inept doctors who are rude and unwilling to help. If you book a consultation trough their website, they won’t even call you and just prescribe whatever drugs they fancy without properly assessing your condition and without even explaining what drugs they prescribed. Don’t even get me started on the reception staff. Once I called because I needed my prescription refilled urgently and the receptionist have been so rude talking to me and told me that they can’t do repeat prescription over phone and I’ll have to come to the practice. When I asked when can I come, she said that I cannot come because they are closed due to pandemic. When I asked her what should I do about my prescription then, she said that I need to wait till they are open again. It’s been almost a year and they still haven’t been open due to pandemic. Took me a couple of calls to get my prescription refilled. Don’t understand why receptionists at this practice play the God when having no medical background. If it would be up to her, I wouldn’t have my prescription refilled to this day.

Receptionists are the WORST. So rude on the phone and always asking what i need to see the doctor/nurse for, isnt there such a thing as confidentiality?! I tried to book a travel vaccination appt and apparently they don't offer it anymore, was very unhelpful about where else i could go for this service, which btw should be free on the nhs but now i'll have to pay private cos they've stopped offering it. Also so difficult to get an appointment, screw this.

I see the bad reviews and I get it . My daughter had issues trying to get an appointment. I went in today to try and sort it out for her. I spoke with Ellie who was on reception. She listened patiently and with great compassion and understanding for the difficulties my daughter had experienced. Ellie helped me without hesitation. These 5 stars are for you Ellie. One person can make a world of difference. Thank you Ellie.

Very kindI was brought to tears from the kindness nurse Nicole showed my mum, who suffers with dementia. People tend to ignore my mum once they find out she has dementia and talk to me about her care, but Nicole directed her attention to my mum. Although she wasn’t making much sense and I was correcting her, nurse Nicole listened patiently while taking her bloods and blood pressure. Thank you so much for the care and the kindness.

HORRIBLE. I went in about a small issue with my eye.Doctor rushed me out the door and prescribed ointment and eye drops. My eye has never been worse. It’s completely blood shot and hurts. I can’t even open it.My mothers also didn’t receive her blood pressure records 6 months after she was supposed to.HORRIBLE, LAZY and just poor. Will be moving practise after!!!!!
