Peveril Castle
The day we visited was drizzling. However, the drizzle was a fortuitous opportunity for us to see the rainbow which was located below the steep slope! We were brought by a tour guide, namely, we didn’t have enough time to amble around this attraction. But we were still amazed by the stunning scenery.Totally, an amazing place, definitely worth visiting in person.

Free for English Heritge members, or 2 years Cadw member, otherwise £6.80, Peveril Castle (also Castleton Castle or Peak Castle) is a ruined 11th-century castle overlooking the village of Castleton. It was the main settlement of the feudal barony of William Peverel, known as the Honour of Peverel, and was founded some time between the Norman Conquest of 1066 and its first recorded mention in the Domesday Survey of 1086, by Peverel, who held lands in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire as a tenant-in-chief of the king. The town became the economic centre of the barony. The castle has views across the Hope Valley and Cave Dale. Not much left of it really, an easy enough tarmac path to the castle, only about a 10 minute walk from the visitor centre, up hill zig zagging, with some benches along the way, best enjoyed on a clear day, ours wasn't the best on the day, but no regrets, we quite enjoyed it, a nice little castle set in a lovely location, don't think we'd go if we weren't members though, as the only really good thing was the views. Parking is available at castleton village, pay and display, there is free parking on the road through the week, but pay and display on weekends and bank holidays. Theres also a small museum in the information centre and toilets.

Interesting historic castle just a quick bus ride away from Sheffield centre in the lovely area of Castleton. The views on the castle grounds were absolutely amazing!!! There’s a bit of a climb, but really worth it. Some benches were around the climb area for some breaks. May get a bit slippery when it rains! Such a nice wonderful viewpoint

Didn’t manage to visit inside of the castle but it’s free for English Heritage members. Looks pretty old from outside. History dated from 1070. If you think you are going to visit more than two sites of English Heritage sites, it is definitely worth it to join the annual membership. A lot of free parking on the street during the week.

Guided tours twice a day which are really well delivered and interesting. There are also lots of information boards around if the guided tour isn't your thing. On top of that...what a view!Really lovely place, a short but steep climb up so be prepared for that - there are benches at stages partway up if you need a break, definitely worth a visit and part of English Heritage if you're a member.

Peveril Castle
The castle is not really a castle is more like a fort but the advertising is good for it. Not so much left and for my point of view a bit overrated. The view is nice. The way to reach it not so easy for elderly people. The way behind the castle i found it more beautiful and 100% i think that money can be used for visiting the caves around.

Lovely views once you get to the castle up a steep winding path but well worth the effort. Obviously no facilities at the castle itself so make sure you have a drink and a snack with you and use the loo before making the climb. Well worth a visit especially on a nice day.

Stiff climb to the actual castle. But a few benches for those that need them along the path. Lots of good information boards. Whole site well maintained. Once at the top the views are worth the effort.

Very steep walk but they don’t provide lockers for you so if u dont have a car u hace to carry all the stuff up. But the view up there is very nice, but as others said, you can hike up the other way. The keep was nice to be finally opened but the castle itself is just a couple of ruins. Only worth it if you are an English heritage member.
