The duvets and pillows were dirty, and I didn't sleep well there. Also there was little food and it was not tasty. But it's still better than nothing. And there was also dirty showers. I do not recommend.

We stayed here on a Friday night night (29th September 2023) and booked a bell tent. We were walking the south downs way and when we read about the bell tents we were excited at having a fire pit and wood stove in the tent. But.... the wood stove had no way to light the fire, no kindling or matches, there was one fire pit outside which was taken by the group of 5 women in the next bell tent so we couldn't use that to keep warm so the tent was really cold all night. Really disgusted that we didn't get what we paid for and what was in the description. The other bell tent was occupied by a group of 5 older women who were obviously drinking and were really really loud and screaming till at least 2o'clock in the morning. It clearly stated on the website that you can't bring your own alcohol and noise should be keep to a minimum after 10 o'clock. So we didn't get to sleep!!!!!!! Nobody to enforce the rules. Really feel like I wasted my money on something that was advertised and didn't live up to it! Nobody took our complaint serious the next morning either.

A very poor experience here, YHA seem to be just another moneymaking business. I’m walking the South Downs way and of course YHA TH is perfectly situated, on the Way, with very few camping options around. There was plenty of space however I was turned away (as a young female hiker walking alone) as place booked out by a school group. The guy I spoke to was perfectly pleasant to me and seemed to think he’d be in trouble if he let me pitch (but being told ‘what do you expect if you’re winging it’ is not particularly helpful). This policy will only discourage people to hike and camp the Way if it’s made so difficult. I understand YHA need business but it would be great if they could keep a small space aside for walkers and not allow this ‘exclusivity’ of being booked out. However, for other SDW walkers, this has been my only bad experience, every other place has been happy to let me turn up so still go ahead and enjoy it, just avoid YHA.

Very nice stay in a Safari Tent near to the main building. Friendly staff who helped solve a query with the cooker and even emailed about retrieving an item lost property after the stay. Bit of a difficult hill to cycle up on the way but well worth it for the view. There weren't many details online on bed arrangements in the Safari Tent but it contains 1 Double bed, 1 Double sofa bed, and 1 set of bunk beds. There is a set of outdoor toilets and showers, along with a set inside the main building.

Run down and neglected. Entrance hall and corridors are filthy, the tables in the dining room always dirty, the kitchen grimy. I had a burger there for £13 and could only eat a bit of it and had stomach pain for the rest of the night. The smell was disgusting, worst burger in my life including bad McDs. The rooms are stuffy and windows can't be opened properly. Toilets dirty and flush not working properly. And please do not speak to the manager about anything that's wrong there, she has anger issues and will shout at you and tell you that's the way things are handled in England. The young staff are lovely though and I feel sorry for them.

Comfy Youth Hostel isolated high up in the Downs on the South Downs Way bridleway. Catering offer includes fish and chips in the evening and a full English breakfast. Views over the Downs to the sea.

This place is a little gem. Situated on the path of the South Downs Way it’s a perfect place for a rest.We stayed here for a few nights in one of the Safari Tents which we loved. The safari tents is so spacious and has enough beds to sleep 6 people. And the cost was so cheap. The food in the cafe is such good value for money! The pizza is delicious and BIG!!!We had a lovely walk up to Devils Dyke for lunch one day which took around an hour. The site welcomes dogs too which is great.Highly recommend this place if you enjoy walking or just want a mini break.

We visited as a group of five, staying in the Safari Tent for two nights.Firstly, this Youth Hostel is way up on the South Downs. Access is via a narrow country road with quite a lot of other users, including horses, so a careful drive is advised. The main building could very much do with some TLC, it's looking very tired and the faculties could do with an upgrade, although it is clean and the staff, especially on our second night, were lovely. The Safari Tent, though, was fantastic for a stay with three adventurous teenage boys. It is well thought out with cooking facilities available inside the tent. The only downsides were the lack of room to manoeuvre around the double bed, and although it's covered by an awning, the balcony does get wetThe food served in the cafe is the same menu as that at most other YHA premises, and the staff are very accommodating, and it tastes good for a fair price. We would say that the parking is one thing that does need looking into, it has a small car park but because there is not clear parking spaces, people do tend to park in very odd ways, causing some to get blocked in and others park across the only access to/from the car park? Appreciate this is down to the drivers and not the YHA, but it would be helped with some level of indication of parking spaces? All in all, despite the rain, we had a very enjoyable stay.

We only popped in for a cup of tea while doing our South Downs walk. The cafe upstairs was basic but had a nice glazed balcony where we could sit and admire the view. The tea was great too!

I have used YHA since 2014 and for the first time I am deeply disappointed by my recent visit to YHA Truleigh Hill. The shared toilet on the ground level had the most foul smell of urine and showeres not particularly cleaned well. Our room also on ground level was full of mould in the ceiling corners and smelled very damp. My biggest complaint was that both my daughter and I whom shared a bed were bitten by small tiny red bugs that were throughout the sheets which we noticed the next morning. Unfortunately my daughter suffered more than myself and developed a rash later on.The customer service team took over 3 weeks to investigate only to explain they had not discovered any signs of bedbugs and that their cleaning team clean the toilets/showeres regularly. What a joke! I didn’t say that we found bed bugs I said we were bitten and there were tiny bugs throughout our sheets. The pungent odour in the toilet is of urine and no matter how much you try and clean it you could only rid this type of smell through refurbishment.I felt that my complaint was poorly handled by the customer service team especially after reading the past reviews about the lack of maintenance at the property. I have definitely lost faith in the YHA brand and will be looking elsewhere for overnight stays.
