We booked a family meal for a party of 20 people for a birthday and put a pre order in as requested. The food was excellent as expected no problems there. Unfortunately the same could not be said for the service, it was not very welcoming at all , the tea time waitress who served us was rude and kept tutting all the time and the chef was far from friendly. Maybe im old fashioned but a smile and a thank you for your custom goes a very long way. We were not rushed out but felt we were being watched and I felt akward for much of the time. The final straw was when I took the cake to the kitchen and asked if the staff would be good enough to cut up the cake ( we had ordered puddings and they were preparing them ) at no point did I expect that to come before anything that they were doing and the waitress turned to me and said “ what now !!” And glared at me , I said no when ever you have time or you can give me a knife I’ve forgotten to bring one . I will not be booking here again I felt so let down after telling every one how good it was!!!!

Terrible food and chef with bad attitude. The cook stood over our family while we had the menu for a matter of moments. We were hasseled to make an instant choice. When the food came it was dry and very hard going. The cook then cleared the table while some of us were still eating and gave us the bill before we had finished...no chance of pudding!! Not once did we get asked if all was ok with our meal (which was probably just as well). Definitely would Not recommend. Just to point out that it was not near closing time we were paying customers, looking for a comfortable environment to enjoy a meal with young (6y +7y) well behaved children. Not a nice atmosphere and definitely NOT good food!

The most amazing food from this little gem of a pub. They welcomed us and our dog. We will definitely be back

First time back at the Royal Oak since I was 17 yep 40 years almost... the occasion was a family funeral. So not the best of circumstances. But staff were wonderful and memories came flooding back from when I was drinking in there under age. Service and drinks were great. Reasonable prices too

Giving this pub five stars for the delicious Sunday lunch we had today. Meat and eight veg with a couple of enormous home made Yorkshire puddings. All piping hot. Rum bread and butter pud with custard. No plastic food here. Friendly atmosphere. Will be back!

The Royal Oak
A modest sized local pub, with a bar area, a dining area, pool table, and large beer garden. There's a decent selection of drinks. The food here is really excellent! I believe that the vast majority is home cooked by the land lady. It's delicious and very reasonably priced. The gammon is particularly good. Last time I was in two of us had Hake off the specials board and it was honestly cooked to perfection. Great flavours. If only more establishments were as good as this one.
