Only been rail replacement bus for months with maybe 1 or 2 random trains a day. I really don't understand the point of this station. Not reliable at all.

The trains do not run late in the evenings (possibly more limited on a Sunday), it's best to check before you travel. Also, please be aware there is a very large step onto and off of the train, this may be an issue for passengers who are disabled, elderly or have mobility issues.

I arrived at this station just looking for post and telephone boxes or a Defibrillator to add to Google Maps. Strangely, there are none of these devices. What I found was a deserted little railway station which looked brand new, almost immaculate; great for photos. Its unmanned and has no barrier between the carpark and the platform. Since the demise of London Midland Trains, it's obviously been very well revamped by the new incumbent London Northwestern Railway. They may have read some of the moans in the reviews below as the disabled access has been rectified with a large raised pad area to aid boarding the carriage. However, its only on the LH end of the platform, so only suitable for one particular carriage. Not having seen a train, I can't comment on the reasoning behind this.Since the COVID-19 virus pandemic, the length of the platform has now been painted with white paired footprint symbols, at 2m social distancing intervals (see my photos). The platform contains two bicycle parking racks (see separate Google Maps place review) and two waiting shelters. One shelter has a single row of little green plastic seats, whilst the other similar shelter has those strange lean against metal benches. Please LIKE if you have found this review helpful thank you

I don't use this station often just a few times to Watford and I had no problems. It's a very fast service when everything is running on time.

St albans itself is lovely without a doubt however st albans abbey train station. Just really really sucks! I commute into London at very early hours and the train is NEVER ON TIME! it's infuriating!

The step up from the platform to the train has got to be the worst I've ever seen on the UK railway network. It's about as unfair to those with impaired mobility as you can get. Bad enough of how baron and poor the construction of the station is and the pitiful frequency of the service provided. At least you get shelter, a ticket machine and a car park. Yay I guess?

The City of St Albans is probably one of the most boring cities I've ever visited in the UK but this station is one of the relaxing and most peaceful stations I've seen

Great service throughout the working week, however on a Sunday trains rarely arrive until after 9am. This is despite the fact that the service is due to start at 7am.

When the trains run its great. But beware if there is ice or heat or any other weather issues.

Sometimes there are more members of staff than passengers onboard, but they make sure that they close the train doors strictly one minute before departure and if passengers happen to show up 45 seconds before departure, they refuse to reopen the doors. Also, they use every opportunity to cancel services which they sometimes replace by buses, but sometimes let passengers down completely. Currently this line is completely unreliable for any purpose. I think these examples tell everything about how important passengers are for the operator and the line deserves its destiny if no one is willing to raise their voice against this attitude.
