Kaoglen Restaurant and Bar

Spent our 1st Wedding anniversary here last night. Beautiful. Everything was 10/10. Lovely, cosy setting, Great hosts, stunning food. Would recommend over and over again. Will be back 100%.

We have had dinner here a few times, and the food has always been excellent. Menu choices are traditional pub-style items, which have been cooked and served perfectly. Portion sizes are generous but sensible; that said, although the dessert menu looks tempting, I've always been too full to justify one.The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed; it's not a large dining and bar area, but not cramped either. Views from the large windows across the valley to the hills beyond are stunning - in good weather.Staff have always been welcoming, friendly and attentive. Dogs are welcome in the dining and bar area - to the point of having their own extensive menu options! - which may put some people off, but as a dog owner it's a bonus for me.

We struggled to find somewhere open to have dinner since arriving at our hotel but I'm very glad the first place we tried was a no go as the food and service at Kaoglen was amazing! It was very quiet as it was a Monday and we didn't realise they were close to closing when we got there. We had dinner and dessert and then discovered they closed at 4pm on Monday and it was now 4.45pm. Nothing was a problem for them they made us feel so welcome and food was delicious! Even the dog menu looked amazing. Would definitely recommend Kaoglen to everyone the fish and batter were perfect and the biscoff Ice cream cake was amazing. Thanks again for being so awesome even though we kept you late xx

It's not always easy to find somewhere that will please all 3 kids, granny and grandpa AND the dog, but Kaolgen is that place!!! Amazing food, lovely, friendly atmosphere and so dog friendly. We couldn't stop talking about how good the food was and even Lilo got her own meal which she loved.

Absolutely fantastic 2 nights here. Debbie and Jack are 2 lovely people. It was my birthday when we were there and they couldn't have made it anymore special. Food was spot on and drinks are very reasonably priced. They both made my birthday and weekend special with the excellent service, food and Company. Till we meet again guys. Gayle and Eric x

Just had a lovely dinner at Kaoglen! The lamb shank fell right off the bone, and we truly enjoyed the apple pie custard so much that we ordered 2 more for takeaway. Wish we would have found this special place sooner. Dogs are permitted indoors to dine with you, and get their picture on the wall. – there is even a dog menu for your 4-legged friend.

We chose to have dinner here while on holiday in the area having seen all reviews to be five star but sadly we experienced the opposite end of the scale.We booked a table the previous evening and the lady we spoke to on the phone sounded really friendly and we were looking forward to visiting.As we arrived we had to wait a short while as there wasn't a table set for us despite booking a time but we could see the place was busy.After getting to our table we ordered starters (black pudding bonbons and deep fried brie) which were okay and a pub-grub standard but sadly nothing exceptional.- Food -All of our party ordered from the specials board (2x lamb and 1x chicken kebabs) save for one who ordered fish and chips. We were informed by the waiter (who was entirely pleasant throughout our time there) that there was only one lamb kebab left so we amended the order and took two chicken instead, again the waiter apologised and was pleasant.When our food arrived we were all disappointed to say the least. The chicken kebabs were simply cubed chicken threaded between pieces of red pepper and had no marinade, sauce or seasoning... simply cooked chicken. The lamb had a marinade at least but was again cubed between pieces of red pepper.Both of the kebab dishes were served with simple caterers chips, onion rings and boiled veg (carrots, butternut squash and cauliflower pieces) which seemed odd, to us at least.The chips that came with the fish and chips were cold and we asked for these to be replaced, which they were quickly. The batter on the fish was thick, doughy in the centre and didn't entirely cover the fish itself.We were asked by the lady behind the bar (I believe she was the owner) if everything was okay with the food and when we explained our issues and the reasons we hadn't ate a lot she did apologise entirely to us. A few minutes later the chef came out to our table and again he apologised entirely and accepted the errors were all his fault. I have to commend the staff's accepting of the standard.When we went to pay our bill we were told that the entire meal and drinks would be on the house, which we were taken aback by but did feel it fair.I must add that we noticed a table next to ours asking for a hamburger from their order to be replaced also.- Overall -We wanted this to be a great experience for the last night of our holiday but sadly that wasn't to be and it was a shame because the staff all seemed entirely hospitable, the location and restaurant were great but the standard of food we received was not high at all.I would loved to have written a different review here but, again, sadly that is not the case and I hope it is received by the owners in the best possible way.Unfortunately we will not be back for food here.-Response to owners reply-I have read both your replies to my review, which is exactly the same, on TripAdvisor and here.I dispute that all of my reviews are negative because that is simply not true and anyone reading them will see that also. Yes, I have reviews of my negative experiences amongst those of which our experience at your restaurant is now one.I have been absolutely honest in the reviews and understand that negative feedback is sometimes hard to accept, evidently from your response.We acknowledged and appreciated your acceptance of the low standard of food we received on the night we attended and did offer to pay for our drinks but this was turned down. We acknowledged this and were thankful at the time.It's sad that our review has been received in such a manner but don't believe in leaving only five star reviews, the review service is there for people to have clear sight of a business.We wish you the best for the future.

Great service and food. Looked at loads on the menu coming out and they all looked great. But the Tomahawk was superb

Fantastic restaurant, staff very friendly and helpful, very accommodating of the two dogs we brought in too, giving them both treats and a bowl of water. Food was delicious, very large portions and high quality food. Would highly recommend.
