The Carpenters Arms
Quaint and cute! Staff were great and a delicious breakfast was included with our room. The only drawback was that we were on the lower floor and it was quite creaky with other guests walking around upstairs.Best part is that it was only about a 5 minute drive to Highclere Castle!! A must stop for Downton Abbey fans.

A great place to stop and eat on the A34. A fairly broad menu and a good set of drinks available. The food came in good time served by friendly and efficient staff. The pub was cosy and comfy and somewhere that certainly met our needs. Very happy to stop off there again if we're travelling back from a long journey. Thanks Carpenter's Arms!!!

Lovely pub near to Newbury Showground, we stopped in to have lunch before continuing to the show ground. Staff were warm and friendly, the food was great. Our only niggle was the hour wait, with guests receiving their meals before us although arriving after us.

First time here at the dog friendly Carpenters Arms this Monday evening, the room was perfect. With fellow country sportsmen in the bar early evening made for a good time. The evening meal was delicious, as was the breakfast, quality. The people running this place both in the evening, and at breakfast were fantastic and a credit to this establishment.

We have visited this pub for lunch on three occasions over as many years so not frequently. The food has always been good and the friendly staff have been a constant. The problem for us is that so has the menu. There are not many choices and all seem to be based on a burger & chips theme. Personally I think there needs to be more variety. Maybe a lasagne or curry with rice. For a Thursday and by no means busy lunchtime we also felt an hour wait for food excessive. One other thing: I just don’t get the idea of serving food on wooden “chopping boards” instead of plates. Are they really hygienic? Overall, a pleasant visit but the choices and service times could be improved.

Went for Sunday lunch. Great atmosphere, family friendly staff, kind-of-ok food. I think we might have been unlucky on the day because everything else was nice but the meat was rather tough. The staff weren't expecting this and took a couple of items off the bill.

We have been traveling through Europe for a month. This was our last stop before flying back to America on Saturday. What a lovely place, just what we needed. Breakfast is included with the room which is served in the conservatory. The grounds are beautiful. Our rooms are roomy and quite nice. There is even a pub on site that serves up great food and drinks! Staff are all very helpful and friendly. It's even a pet friendly establishment. Wonderful place to stay.

Compliments to the chef! Rocked up for a bite to eat for lunch and needless to say it was the best pub lunch we've had in a few years. Portion sizes and quality of the food was amazing. Huge garden and dog friendly. Highly recommended
