BUYER BEWARE - DO NOT BUY FROM THIS RETAILER. DOES NOT COMMUNICATE W BUYER WHEN ISSUES ARRISE.Writing a review on behalf of my husband who purchased a ring from BLA as a surprise birthday gift for me. Long story short, communication was terrible, got dragged out for 5 months without resolution, and resulted in us having to file a claim with our credit card which got us our money back. On top of that, one of the pearls set in the ring fell out after 2 wears. Jewelry repair said the pearls were likely not original to the setting and were glued in.

Bought beautifully crafted Victorian ring. The ring was bought on sale, through direct bidding. The first unpleasant surprise was the difference between the price agreed upon in chat and the price quoted at the time of payment. Playing on the difference between US dollar and euro, 24 euros were added (at first it was even 80 euros difference). The ring was then shipped by ultra-fast Ups (with expected next-day delivery). For various reasons, the package was stuck in customs for six days. Second bad surprise, the invoice provided by the seller indicated an amount over 50 euros higher than what I had paid. So I had to pay import taxes (VAT) for a higher amount than I actually paid. No response to my questions for clarification about the invoice with increased amount nor to my request for help in unblocking the shipment. The package arrived at my home after 7 days. The ring is beautiful and, at first glance, responsive to what was stated (I will take to a goldsmith for more timely verification). In conclusion, for all EU buyers, I urge to keep in mind that VAT payment must be added. All in all I think it is not worth buying from this store. Not recommended.

What an amazing website. Beautiful antique jewelry all with a history of their own. The staff is knowledgeable and excited to help you with any inquiries. Their pricing is fair although often out of my budget. Although I was delighted with the opportunity to pay what you wish promotion. I had just bought a gorgeous Georgian pearl band but was coveting a stunning Georgian Amethyst ring. I made an offer and Monty got back to me right away and we decided on a final number and I’m now the proud owner of a little bit of history.Thank you Monty for your assistance!!

Butter Lane Antiques helped me source the perfect engagement ring (early 20th Century 3ct Diamond), well within budget and in a very short space of time. I spoke with several jewellers but the experience and patience shown from Alex and Monty was invaluable, in what was a stressful decision. Couldn't be happier with their service and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

My ring was never shipped. I was told resizing would take 1-2 weeks, followed up multiple times, got multiple excused but the ring never shipped. After a month, received a shipping email with a tracking only to hear “it was the wrong one” and “we will ship your ring when it’s ready”. Communication is horrible - I got one line texts and never proper emails with dates and commitments. Asked for a refund multiple times. Ended up disputing the charge with my credit card, which gladly refunded me and will handle the mess with this vendor. Don’t be fooled by all the social media posts, the team is unprofessional.

Had an issue with a ring, and still waiting for a response after accepting the offered refund. Sent multiple emails, all unanswered. It has been 9 months. Caveat emptor - buyer beware.

I have purchased two nice quality items from Butter Lane Antiques and received them. They have a buyer with an exceptional eye. They also take very nice photos for social media. I was very impressed with their selection and hoped to become a regular customer. At this point I’m doubtful I will ever try to purchase from them again. Yes, I received the items I purchased and they were as advertised. However both buying experiences were extremely unpleasant. I believe that buying nice jewelry should be an enjoyable experience. I buy from high end antique dealers regularly and the level of service at Butter Lane is not where it needs to be for the quality of merchandise they sell. I had communications with both Monty and Alex and both were unprofessional and terribly flakey. I was left to feel uneasy and unsure I would even receive my purchases at all, this is not a fun way to feel when spending money. During the time period that my messages were going unanswered, for days and weeks, Butter Lane was still posting new items regularly on social media. I love the jewelry, but they need to learn professional and prompt communication skills or hire someone else who can communicate properly with their customers. I have read their past reviews and sadly see the poor communication issue is not new.

I initially received my necklace without having been fixed like it was discussed with Monty, and with spotty communication. However, Monty was quick to contact me back after seeing my first review. He explained that he had taken leave from work for a bit for personal matters (completely understandable), and that the order had shipped before he could see it. Monty was willing to have the necklace shipped back to the shop for the repairs without any extra charge. He explained that the repairman decided to alter the piece rather than make repairs as it may make the necklace look disagreeable in appearance. I agreed and was happy that he had communicated this to me. The necklace was shipped back as soon as the alteration was done.I'm super happy with the purchase in the end, and the customer service I received to correct the issues from the initial shipment. I would recommend Butter Lane Antiques and Monty!

I purchased a string of “Chinese jade” beads in April 2021. In May this year (2023), I was unexpectedly advised by a friend, who is an avid collector of Chinese jade, that the beads were not “Chinese jade”. I immediately informed Butter Lane, and was glad that the team worked with me to have the beads examined by their gemologist: I returned the beads to Butter Lane as instructed in June. It took a few months, and regular following-up on my part, and Butter Lane I informed me in September that they would fully refund me the purchase price. Butter Lane issued the refund to me at the end of October. There was a complication in that the credit card account through which I had made the original purchase had been closed, which contributed to the delay. In the end, after a deal of “messaging” between Butter Lane and myself, the refund was made to the same credit card account, and I was able to work with the credit card company to receive the refund in my bank account. I am very glad that Butter Lane agreed to resolve this matter by issuing the refund.

Had some issues with a ring but Monty is working on a resolution. I really appreciate that level of customer service. Beautiful pieces and I love getting the 'new acquisitions' notifications.***Updated to say- the issue was never resolved. The resolution got dragged out. They still have our money and my wife has a ring that lost its setting shortly after we purchased it. I had another jeweler look at the setting and it’s been poorly attached to the setting. So- the setting and ring are definitely not original to one another and probably not antique at all. Very disappointed indeed.
