First it's free to park! Not many place like this. Good place to start forest walk along Tamworth Train line. If you arrive early, it's empty, but can be busy around midday and later.

Local to me Causey Arch is an architectural reminder of the North Easts part it played in the development of railway and coal production. At its peak almost a 1000 trucks of coal past over this arch, but alas it was short lived and literally by the 1750's it was an anachronism. The railway survived to the 60's but now there is a tourist line which operates weekends and during holidays I think ,which passes the arch. You can still walk over the arch. The longest walking route is probably about 1hr 30mins long. Cafe ,lots of parking, lots of picnic benches. Rock climbing by local groups if that's your thing. River through the gorge is great on a summers day.

Easy parking with plenty spaces. There's a canny little walking loop around the gorge that'll take about 1hr Half if you stop for picnic and occasional photos. Maybe best paired with Gibside which is just up the road and also provides a similar walky day out.

Really enjoyed the walk around and very informative signs to build knowledge of the location and role it played in mining.

I love the Causey Arch with its free parking and views of the Arch when walking my dog. I visit here regularly because it's close to Stanley and it's usually quiet most days. If wanting a longer stroll you can walk along side the railway tracks on the footpath and see views across to Stanley and this path takes you towards Tanfield Railway where you can turn back on yourself and walk back to the Arch alongside the stream for more glorious views of nature!
