Restored Retro

If the idea of restored furniture has not yet hit you, take a quick look in the window of Restored Retro, just off the Dolphin Centre in Poole. Steve who runs it, restores pieces of Ercol, G-Plan and others from the sixties and seventies, giving them new life and a fresh look. Better still, take a look a little closer and you’ll see quirky individual furniture by Jay&Co. Not sure what that is? It’s a company run by Jay Blades of Repair Shop fame and they recreate classics with a new twist. The key thing about this shop is Steve. He’s the person who has the in depth knowledge of his art and will advise you on how your individual furniture might turn out with different fabrics and colours. It’s a great service with wonderful products: Steve’s restorations combined with the innovation of Jay&Co. Don’t miss this!

I was very specific about wanting a particular Gplan unit. I contacted Steve after seeing some of his work on Instagram. Steve knew I had a tight budget and as a result of this and the unit being quite rare, it took a while to come up up but when it did, it was restored exactly to my requirements which were discussed at every stage of the process, to keep me informed e.g timelines, budget for hair pin legs and height of legs etc, and delivery options. Nothing was too much trouble. When my unit was delivered I was blown away with the standard of restoration. Every inch and corner is absolutely perfect. The unit is a real feature in my home and one day I will add other pieces such as ladderax and table and chairs and will go back to Restored Retro. A lot of people are selling mid century, but I am yet to see anything close to the quality and standard of the finish of Steve’s work.

We have just taken ownership of the most beautiful Ercol sideboard lovingly restored by Steve. It looks absolutely amazing in our new home...thank you Steve!

I bought a set of six restored chairs from Steve, at a very reasonable price. I saw a picture of them, taken when he took ownership of them, and the transformation was incredible - what a talent to have!I found him to be friendly, knowledgeable and honest, all of which go a very long way with me.
