What a find! In the middle of a housing estate, a hidden piece of Tudor history.Quite surreal how this once 'stand alone' manor house, has over the years, been built around to the point of the area being no longer recognised as the place it once was. Big house, land with farm and fields, overlooking the Thames! Was left derelict and later resurrected to its former glory.Worth a visit AND free entry for locals of LBBD (Who have the long term lease) and includes a guided tour, though not obligatory. Not fancy but very interesting.

I visited Eastbury Manor House on 2 July 2023 and quite frankly, could not have been more impressed with the property or our guide, Jennifer who gave us a guided tour, was outstanding! The other members staff who welcomed us were very pleasant and welcoming. They advised us to join the tour that Jennifer was about to start.First of all, the property, in the middle of a housing estate, looks like a real gem. The house itself is very stately with fine examples of attractive Elizabethan archicture etc. For me it was fascinating walking around and seeing original fittings which are more than 500 years old. Theyd have a door, which is still functional, consisting of two panels joined together with metal studs which was there when the manor house was built. For those who love history, this place is a MUST. They also have two towers, external to the building, which were originally used to access the upper floors (internal stair case was added afterwards), One tower was damaged in a fire and has a modern stair case fitted and the other, is completely original as old as the house!Jennifer was amazing. She is an elderly lady but she certainly very knowledeable and I don't exaggerate when I say she is one of the best guides I have yet encountered on my regular visits to National Trust properties. She told us some very interesting facts. For example, the ceilings in kitchens need to be high to accommodate very high ventilation windows. If the windows were lower down, it can cause draughts from the hughe fire places, which could start a fire. It is one of the ways you can identify kitchens in such buildings - their ceilings are significantly higher than the other rooms in the house.Anyone who enjoys visiting historical properties, should certainly add this one to your list.

Such a beautiful and historic building. I've been visiting this place for years and have now finally got around to reviewing it on here.I love the garden at the back, it's so calming and peaceful, especially in the summer, of course. The courtyard is one of my favourite spots with a very historic feel whilst walking around the tree.A lovely tearoom area, especially the panel room. I love seeing the old rooms and fire places inside. The old stairs makes you feel like you've gone back in time for sure.I have visited countless times every year and will certainly continue to do so going forward. A wonderful and hidden gem within the reach of the Barking area.

Excellent visit to Eastbury Manor House which is right in the middle of a housing estate in Barking. Smaller than some of the other National Trust properties but interesting nonetheless. Tours are available and Sue, our guide was excellent and gave us a very detailed and interesting tour. She is very knowledgeable about the house and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. There was a school party there too which was great. Volunteers dress up in the period costumes and there is a lot to see. Some rooms are being renovated so remain closed. The coffee shop is the best priced to date and very good value. Train to Barking then bus to Tudor Road. House is a few minutes walk from there.

Fabulous Elizabeth and house in Barking. 16th century building restored to its original looks. Excellent tour guide (free) explained the very interesting history of the building and its family history. Owned by the NT but run by the local council small cafe/restaurant on site and a lift for those unable to manage the multiple stairs.

I'd been wanting to see this place for about 10 years, I finally made my first visit and was so glad I went. It's a beautiful building, the staff are very friendly and the tour guide Maurice was very knowledgeable and passionate about the building. It's quite easy to get to via public transport. It's only £5 entrance fee or free for NT members.I'm local to the area so look forward to my next visit.

Lovely visit today with my parents. Dad is recovering from a recent hip replacement so is on crutches. The staff/volunteers went out of their way to find my Dad a wheelchair which meant my Dad could navigate the whole house so much more easier with the aid of the lift. We had a lovely afternoon tea in the courtyard to finish off the experience. Would definitely recommend a visit. A hidden gem in the heart of Barking. Well worth a visit.
