Shotts Vet
I would say that this vet is fine for first vaccinations and issuing of medication however, if your pet is in need of blood tests or anything more complicated, this is not treatable in Shotts even though the website says they do more. We took our little cat there about a month ago now as she was off her food and her urine was a strange colour. Routine urine sample was given but found to be normal, vet thought maybe stress related so was given an anti inflammatory injection and anti sickness injection as the vet couldn't see anything wrong with her. We were told that we could have taken her to the emergency out of hours in Glasgow and that this was cost, if we remember correctly, that it would be £278 for a consultation as that the animal hospital in Edinburgh would not see her as it wasn't urgent. We decided to take her back to Clyde Vets in Lanark even though she didn't like travelling (the reason why we changed to Shotts). They took bloods there and then the following day and she was admitted to their hospital with kidney disease. They kept her in all weekend and tried to flush out her kidneys but all other stats were showing against her and further bloods showed that she had chronic kidney disease and that there was no hope for her. We brought Annie back home overnight and the vet kindly put her to sleep the following day. We feel that if we had have had blood tests done a few years back when we took her to Shotts, this might have shown up and we might have been able to do something then, but unfortunately it was too late. We've just had a bad experience but as we say, if for just routine things it's fine but if you feel your pet is really unwell, it is better to go to a vet where they have all the facilities to carry out proper indepth checks inhouseI can assure you that at no point was I offered the opportunity to have blood tests taken. I was told that the vet would have to refer our cat to your hospital in Edinburgh for further tests but this would be based on your referral and as the vet felt in wasn't urgent, it would take 3-4 weeks for our cat to be seen. The vet said that she did not have x-ray eyes and couldn't see if there was anything going on inside but surely if you were able to carry out blood tests in house that this would have allowed her to see if there was anything going on inside, which clearly there was.

Very lovely vet, very caring with our puppies. Building shabby, but don't be put of by it because it what's inside that's important.
