Caffyns Volkswagen Brighton

I bought a used approved VW Golf from Caffyns in Brighton several weeks ago. It was a March 2020 plate Golf with about 9000 miles or so on the clock. After I had travelled down to collect it, I discussed several areas of bodywork which I wasn't happy about with the salesperson who had sold me the car. I drew his attention to the areas that I was concerned about and asked him if the car had been in an accident. He repeatedly denied that it had and told me that VW would not allow the car to be sold if it had. Unfortunately, I decided to go ahead with the collection. When I arrived back home, whilst looking over the car, I looked in the glovebox and found a job sheet for the removal, repair and refitting of four major body panels (bonnet, NSF door and front and rear bumpers) on the car. I found scratching on the nuts that hold the bonnet onto the rest of the car, an ill-fitting front bumper and multiple imperfections on the rear bumper (where the bumper meets the rear wing and where grit had been oversprayed). I phoned Caffyns and told them that I was rejecting the car. They accepted this (as they should) and the car was collected from my home. Caffyns have consistently denied that they had any knowledge that the car had been accident damaged (although they said that cars have often had 'cosmetic repairs'). I am genuinely concerned as to whether Caffyns did actually know about the prior history of the car and whether I was misled. However, i'm equally or more concerned that vehicles like the one I bought are being sold as VW used approved vehicles for top prices and that customers are not being informed about the history of cars that are being supplied through the scheme (I believe this is a legal obligation). Apparently, VW itself had actually sold Caffyns the car. You may think that fairly major accident damage would show-up on vehicle history checking websites- but if a claim for damage hasn't been made on a previous owner's insurance, then it doesn't. I'm concerned that cars that have previously been quite heavily accident damaged are being sold to customers through the VW used approved scheme without their knowledge due to the fact that accident damage has not been repaired via an insurer and therefore doesn't show up on a car's record. I would recommend having any used car that you are thinking about buying independently inspected (even if it's being bought through a manufacturer's used approved scheme). If they won't agree to this, or you have any doubts, don't be afraid to walk-away (however much you need a car/like the car).

We are on our 3rd Vehicle so far with VW , and every time we always receive 1st class service .Kayle at VW Brighton always on hand to help us with any enquiries and I can not fault the sales, down to the service department and aftercare . We recently purchased a car for my son and he was totally overwhelmed with the fuss they made for him when we went to collect his car , made him feel very important like a valid customer which is great .

My partner was forced to bring her car here through Cinchs warranty where there were 2 issues which needed to be addressed. A n issue with the breaks, which was fixed, and an engine warning light.After a total of 3 days with the VW garage in Brighton the main concern, the engine warning light, has not be fixed.Yes there is a stupid amount of red tape with Cinch warranty but this is unacceptable. Now we will suffer further inconvenience because of this basic failure to do the job they were asked to do. Unacceptable.

Pop in this afternoon to look at a car I had seen on auto trader after a test drive and detailed look at the car . I decided to go ahead with the purchase with Alex ! He was extremely pleasant and didn't put any pressure on me. Gave me the 10 star treatment as if I had ordered a brand new car he definitely treats all his customers the same. Simply amazing service even better my car will be ready to collect in 2 days suprub service. Thank-you ALEX

Excellent experience throughout the process, Christian was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with the car as I chose not to view it in person before purchase. Seamlessly arranged handover and delivery and all communication was timely. Wouldn't hesitate to buy from Caffyns again.
