ABBEY CANTERBURY GUEST HOUSE

When we arrived our room was not ready which meant we had to wonder around town for an hour with our bags. There was no official checking in and out process. I was simply told to leave the key for the room on a front desk which was not a secure space at all. Also, there was a power cut that lasted for 2hrs and no members of staff were on hand to assist meaning we were without power for quite some time at night. The rooms were clean and presentable but very small.

I booked a room for three nights, under the impression breakfast was included (as it was advertised on google and the website as being included). When I'd paid and received a confirmation I realised that my confirmation stated room only. Very confused, I rang/emailed the owner and asked him why breakfast wasn't on there. He stated that breakfast wasn't included in their rooms. Very disappointed I asked for a refund, he refused to do this. I had to go through the bank I paid with to get my money back, as I believe the room was falsely advertised. I now have my money bank. Massive ordeal!

I did not stay at the accommodation, however I went to see a friend and it is cosy, clean and the owner seems nice and helpful.

Worst bed I've ever slept on. The mattress was so hard It was like sleeping on bricks, woke up with pain all over my back.Also they claim to have free parking in when in reality you have to park on the road.

Very small room, clean and tidy though

The only thing very nice about our experience at the hotel was that we arrived early but they let us check-in. It is also convenient that the hotel is located so close to the train station. Nearly everything else was bad. The room we booked - cheapest at the hotel but not so cheap in general - was very tiny. The bathroom in particular was incredibly tiny, hardly any room to move about to do your things. The wash basin was a joke - so small your hands won't fit, and even that area is half-covered by a huge bowl of soap dispenser which is empty and useless. It was a hot summer day but there was no fan and the window could only open a tiny bit, so we had a hard time sleeping. No AC obviously. Check-out time was somewhat early, 11 am. And when we asked during checking in if we could leave our luggage with the staff while checking out, so that we can go to see the city and pick it up later while leaving by train, the staff refused saying there won't be anyone on that day, we should just leave the key on the ledge while leaving. Then what's the benefit of booking a place close to the station? Not a comfortable experience and won't stay there again.

We had the family room. The owner greeted us and advised us on where to park which was very helpful. Rooms & decor were lovely. Lots of positives and the location is fabulous. A few negatives; No kettle (Do like a cup of tea in the morning). 4 People who take sugar in their tea with only 2 small sugar sachets. No wardrobe. All guests have to walk through double bedroom to access bathroom. Lovely bath but no shower. As converted house lots of noise from people walking above. I know I have listed some negatives but I would definately stay here again and recommend to others. Abbey Guesthouse, thank you for a lovely stay. We will be back.

Not great to be honest. Arrived about 4pm to be met by a guy who couldn't wait to get away. Told us to leave the key on a shelf and just go in the morning. Nice but small room with tiny shower room you can hardly turn around in. Had other 'guests' running up and down the stairs and shouting all night. Alot of money for no sleep or breakfast. Almost left for home during the night.

The place was clean and tidy, rooms nicely done ,and location was brilliant

Small guest house. Our room was spotless but rather small. Was supposed to be a double but should be in the category of small single. Jacuzzi bath facility was unecessary due to lack of space thus no room for shower cubicle. In it's favour is the fact that it is central for Canterbury city but sadly due to my above comments we will not be returning.
