A Sunday afternoon meal.We visited as a party of 6 for my grandparent’s wedding anniversary, the dining area is spacious enough that you don’t feel like you’re sat on top of other customers, the place has been decorated beautifully too!All the drinks came out which were great except one of our guests complained about his shandy, the waiter quickly took the drink away and investigated to find the lemonade was the issue - they replaced the drink and the problem was quickly resolved without fuss. Our meals arrived, I personally opted for the roast ham Sunday lunch and my partner went for the beef dinner so she could give me her beef (she isn’t overly keen on the meats that were on offer and would’ve preferred a chicken or turkey option but there wasn’t one on the menu)The ham was delicious and very succulent, the beef was also good, there were just a few little chewy bits but nothing major that put me off.The veg and gravy were nice too, extra gravy was offered without us asking which was a nice touch, also the Yorkshire pudding was great - crispy and quite fresh which is usually what lets a lot of pub Sunday dinners down. The staff were all very friendly and the food was brought out at a fast pace.Overall it was a lovely Sunday pub lunch and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a modern, spacious pub with good quality food.Just a side note - the parking isn‘t great at the busiest times, twice now I’ve been here and had to block another family member’s car in because there weren’t enough spaces.

Our first visit here while we were on holiday in the area. Looks lovely from the outside and even better on the inside. It gives you the nice cosy, country feeling that you would expect. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was amazing, nice, fresh and homemade. Big portions so we actually struggled to eat it all, but well worth the money. We will definitely be back if we are in the area again and would recommend others to try it.

Lovely meet up with friends. Big portions of food had to take a doggy bag home. Lot brighter and cleaner than it use to be. Well worth a visit.

The staff are lovely and the food is delicious...proper home cooked chips and big portions.Atmosphere is very chilled but the ambience of the place is superb, the decor is meticulous, making such a large place cosy and welcoming. There are options for people who are gluten intolerance and vegetarian/vegan options. We have been twice, once for lunch (soup pic) and the other for tea (the other 3 pics)

Just come back from having Sunday lunch here. First time visitor, will make it my mission to come back again. The place is beautiful, with little quirks and the food was delicious. Service from all staff was what you want, friendly and informative about the place and area.

On a dark September night after a long day driving I stopped off for some dinner before continuing home. Service and attention was very good, food excellent and a good ambience. A very convenient place by the road side, ample parking, they have done an excellent job with renovation, the place looks brand new.https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g186322-d25163364-r925171933-The_Countryman-Cockermouth_Lake_District_Cumbria_England.html#

The refurb has worked in both atmosphere and quality of food. Food was plentiful, hot, and tasty. We went as a dozen ppl work do and everything came out together with excellent service. Plant based burger was tasty but they could do with adding a second veggie option.

Stumbled over this after a walk. Very very good and can highly recommend. They fitted 13 of us in as a walk-in.The food was of such a high standard. I had fish & chips and it was the nicest I’ve had for a long time. The new fit out was also really lovely, and super clean!Definitely be back. The only snag - maybe a little on the pricey side. £20 for fish & chips seems a bit steep. So therefore we had spent £66 for 2 adult meals, a kids meal and 2 drinks each. That’s a lot for lunch.
