I have attended a number of Bath Philharmonia concerts, mostly at the Forum and the Wiltshire Music Centre. Last year I heard Nicola Benedetti playing the Elgar Violin Concerto, followed after the interval with the Enigma Variations. I am rarely as moved by a live performance as I was by this one. It was one of those remarkable occasions when each musician seemed to express individual excellence while at the same time manifesting an extraordinary group consciousness that raised the music to a level I had not heard before. I really regret that I didn't jump to my feet at the end - if there was any justice the whole audience should have risen as one and cheered the orchestra to the rafters.The Forum is convenient, and the Wiltshire centre is good but out of the way. Bath deserves a proper concert venue: if such a place were to exist, then the Bath Phil would most certainly belong there.

Good playing & good music tonight but programme about an hour too long. Sorry but true.. (eg Messiaen inappropriate in light jazz prog.) Leave audience wanting more not less!
