A great place for a family walk around the reservoir. You can also do some shroom spotting. The car park can get busy but there is another just up the road. Toilets also on site, plus a pub on route. Even watched a goldcrest at work.

If you love the great outdoors and a good walk, it’s a great way to spend a morning or afternoon exploring the beautiful Yorkshire moors.I arrived early this weekend 08.30, I knew the car park gets busy as it’s not my first visit - mid morning onward you struggle to park on a weekend and have to park where you can on the road leading to the car park.Arches of stunning views, some low level walking paths from the car park and some more challenging routes too.Sensible footwear, I’d recommend walking boots for the different paths some soil, some stone, country paths and often soggy underfoot terrain through the woodlands and over moors. The weather can change quickly, again suggest rain coat and layers, it can get chilly over the moors.I like to take a drink for me and the dog, no shops or cafes on the walk. There are loos in the car park and a pub near the car park too if you fancy a tipple and a bite after your walk.

A leisurely walk with the dog; it’s quite hilly in parts and you’re not able to walk round the whole reservoir. It’s a mixture of woodlands and along parts of the water’s edge. We couldn’t do a circular walk, as when we got towards a gate at North America, no dogs were permitted due to wildlife, so had to turn around and walk all the way back!

Great walk, just a nice distance and with a couple of inclines to make you feel like you’ve had a decent walk. Unlike other local reservoir walks, one side is away from the shore and up on moorland- I like the variety this adds and you also get some good views from the top. Free parking, plus a nice pub or Bank View cafe at the end make this a great walk. It does get very busy at weekends and if the weather is nice, but it can be nice and peaceful midweek.

This is a great place to walk /run & enjoy the fantastic British Outdoors. There are varied walking trails to follow and even more benches to either catch your breath it to tuck into a sandwich or 2. On our trip the weather was complimenting the day out that I decided to have with my children (who are adults but still kids in my eyes). We managed to talk (I between trying to catch my breath) as adults and laugh so much especially when my son mentioned a 'Jaguar' long story but so so funny. A truely Great walk but take sturdy walking shoes as it can be quite tricky under foot & I am sure if it's been raining it could be quite slippy. During your visit you follow a crude but interesting yellow trail that leads to a gate (if you don't get lost. Go out there and enjoy it, a trail for all standards. Oh & there's a great pub at the end (what more do you need)? Also before a go 'Free Parking'

Once parked up, the reservoir paths open up to miles of adventurous walks across Howden Moor and beyond. From here there is a 14 mile loop across to Derwent Valley dams. The reservoir itself is quite large with a surfaced path around the Eastern side and trails along the Western side which take you through mature conifer woods.Very picturesque spot and pretty quiet albeit when I was there twenty thousand black- headed gulls were jostling for position on the water - so nature is plentiful. Only thing I would add is the trail markers aren't that informative and often leave you wondering which direction the path is going, so that could do with updating. All in all a great place and thankfully provided courtesy of Yorkshire Water.

When we arrived the car park was full, there is overflow parking in a lay-by over the road, I was worried about how busy it was but I didn't need to be, the reservoir is so big you've got plenty of space to explore, without being on top of each other. We took the main trail down to a stream and sat there for a while. The stream is fed by a waterfall but it wasn't running too much as it was a dry day, after previous dry days. We walked back to the car park through the woods and could easily get lost in there, absolutely stunning place, feel we need to return to explore more
