the regulars that stand outside the bar spitting into the road every few mins says it all about this pub. or standing in the doorway smoking . not a bad bar but it could be so much better if the owner wised up brought in a new crowd instead of the few regulars that just try to stare you out when your in there. the bar is in the middle of student land yet very few if any students if any use because of the reasons above. the staff are friendly enough but some of your regulars put off a lot people i know this because im one of them and i know many other's

Used to be my local for over 20 years have moved but been in a few times since then. Not a big place but has a fine selection of ales with a well stocked gantry. It's a popular place with the locals, nice atmosphere, with friendly and accommodating staff.

Very popular little local in the west end.The sales of Guinness and Tenants are up there with some of the top Scottish pubs.There's often a good mix of characters and I have to say it's a very dog friendly pub if that suits your needs.Staff can be really cheeky monkeys but they're always on the ball.

The friendliest pub in town. Walked in four and a bit years ago, met my future hubby and got married there. Can't say enough about Paul and his hospitality.

Lucy diamond hit the nail on the head with her review,,....its not a pub/bar stupants would want to frequent and its all the better because of that reason, its a REAL pub, with no pretentious fawning over the customer from the salt of the earth barstaff. Quiet frankly, if Lucy and/or her illk want a modern, fake atmosphere there are plenty of other establishments to pander their every needs. im glad balgay bar exists, a proper pub, for real people...James Kane jnr...

Personally I think the place needs a total make over. Air con would be nice, the lighting is shocking in the lounge and the bathrooms are flithy. Some bar staff are welcoming others let you hear all the goss of the town (without wanting to). Would be more inviting with a different crowd and more of a positive vibe to it.
