The organisation was founded as the Wildfowlers’ Association of Great Britain and Ireland, (WAGBI) in 1908 by Stanley Duncan FZS and Sir Ralph Payne-Gallwey Bt.In 1981 WAGBI changed its name to the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC). This change was agreed at the Annual General Meeting of that year in recognition of the fact that shooting sports required a single representative body and that WAGBI was the most suitably placed organisation to take on that role. BASC was incorporated as an Industrial and Provident Society and formally became The British Association for Shooting and Conservation Limited in January 1997.

I've been a member for a few years now. I've often rang Firearms up at BASC to discuss problems. Even rang Scotland branch on bringing air weapons across the border and have found they are so informed on everything on shooting that I would recommend all shooters to join BASC.I believe some staff are ex Firearms officers from the police and they are very helpful and informative with any enquiries with either air weapons shotguns or Firearms. Also solicitors who can advise on license refusals and appeals. Anything you wish to know I'm sure they have the answer. Not to mention what they do for our wildlife. Great team. Thank you for all that you do.Regards David
