Taxed as usual when I should not be getting taxed. Then wait on the phone for over 10 minutes on hold to only have the phone put down on me the seconds time. And cost me £4 to make the call HM rev are a joke. Would rate 0 star

Poor systems, slack practises and nonchalant approach. This is why the country is owed millions in missing revenue.I have had the misfortune to move into a property whereby the previous owner has registered several businesses which have evaded tax and other statutory responsibilities. As such, I am being deluged by debt recovery and related companies, subcontracted by Companies House and HMRC.Despite the completion of requisite forms, writing of emails and several phone calls all at my own time and expense, it keeps coming. They have not updated records or taken on board new information that I have given them and continue to pursue a person at an address that they categorically do not live at.In case you’re wondering why so much tax is evaded and other business regulations flaunted - this is clearly why.If any evidence was required of why government agencies have a reputation for pondering and inept intransigence - look no further.

I don't't complain about much but this is just too much I waited for over 30 minutes and i just gave up. It was the longest I have ever been put on hold just to talk to someone. I would give it no stares but the system will not except it

Like the Mafia except you'd probably be treated more fairly by mobsters. Absolute joke considering the importance of the HMRC, yet they can't seem to find a competent system to make anything work, and can't find a member of staff to pick up the phone to help. If you ever have a problem, good luck! You are well and truly on your own. Oh and don't mess up, because if you do you'll face hefty fines (I.E extortion) or even worse, prison time!

20-30 minute hold times are standard before you even speak to someone who will tell you they need to put you through to someone else.Online user names are government gateway ID numbers which are too long to easily memorise and you need separate ones for personal, company, VAT, etc. Why not have usernames? The online system requires that they mail you a security code to activate it (which is fair enough) but you need to order one for each tax. I ordered one for self-assessment which failed to arrive. After 10 days it lets you order another one, which did arrive. I had to order my corporation tax security code FOUR TIMES before it arrived.Once I finally got it activated, when I go to view my SA302 or other key documents it says that I can't view them because they weren't filed online.I pay my taxes in full and on time but it feels like they make it as difficult as possible!

Zero stars is what I want to give but the option isn't available: six attempts to call in one day resulting in a dead end each time. After 6 minutes of ridiculous automated messages the voice tells you they are too busy and hangs up! Appalling treatment!! HMRC is in desperate need of an overhaul by new and competent managers!

I was taxed approx double my normal amount so contacted the tax office to see why and how I might get back the extra £500+ tax I had paid. I was on the phone so long that when the bill came in the call had cost me £118 and I had to wait a month to get my own money back I only realized just £400. DO NOT USE THIS PHONE SERVICE. IT COSTS £3.60 A MINUTE TO GET YOUR OWN MONEY BACK.

Incredibly angry and frustrated. I was placed on an incorrect tax code (DO) and over paid tax. It's impossible to get hold of anyone or sort this out on line. Yes, I have a govt gateway account, which is of no help at all. Huge amount of time wasted queuing on the automated phone system, many times, only to be told at the end, we're busy and cannot help goodbye". Still not resolved it or got my money back. So angry!"

I was put on hold for absolutely ages, when I did get through I was told that my query would have to be passed to a specialist who would 'phone me in 3 days time, but couldn't give me a time. I waited all day - no 'phone call. When I 'phoned again, after another long wait, I was told that they 'phoned and got no answer - it transpired that they 'phoned on the wrong day. When the specialist" finally 'phoned

Phoned with question about my tax coding. I was quickly assessed and my coding was changed. I prepared for the call by having all the recent documents (e.g. P60's and payslips) relating to the call to hand to help the operator.
