Avoid at all costs. Rang up and told him the issues and he says to bring the bike down, spent 25 minutes getting there just for him to turn round and say you have an electric kit on it I won't touch it" even though I rang and asked that exact question before I wanted time going there"

All hail Steve The Bike King! Ha. Really friendly dude. Went in with my lad’s bike. Minor problem. Sorted it there and then. No messing about. Thanks Steve

Never answers the phone, always quite rude, doesn't offer a basic service of bushing replacement, with parts provided, as this is too much of an inconvenience" for him. Did it myself in the end

I would recommend somewhere else. If you have not purchased the bike in question from him, he will tell you to sling your hook. Very unprofessional. All these reviews saying he is very friendly are wrong unless it was just me.

My recent visit to Johnson Cycles in Stalybridge left me extremely disappointed and frustrated. I had high hopes of receiving expert advice and assistance in upgrading parts on a bike I purchased online, but unfortunately, the owner's attitude and lack of willingness to help were evident from the start.Upon mentioning that my bike had internal routing cables, the owner seemed disinterested and made it clear that he was not comfortable working with newer technologies. Instead of offering any guidance or suggestions, he simply brushed me off and suggested I take my bike elsewhere. This selective approach to the type of bikes he is willing to work on is not only unprofessional but also reflects poorly on the shop's reputation. What added insult to injury was the sign I noticed on the shop window that claimed they could assist customers who had bought bikes online. This couldn't have been further from the truth based on my experience. It's baffling that they would advertise a service they clearly cannot provide. This encounter has solidified my belief that people opt to buy bikes online for a reason. The convenience and accessibility of online platforms far outweigh the frustrating and unhelpful experiences one can encounter at physical stores like Johnson Cycles. Why bother with face-to-face interactions when a simple click of a button can give you access to a wealth of information and friendly advice?I don't see myself giving Johnson Cycles another chance in the future. Perhaps if I had an old 1970s Raleigh bike in need of repair, I might consider their services. However, when it comes to modern or new bicycles, I would strongly advise against entrusting them with any work. My interaction with the owner today left me with little confidence in their ability to handle such bikes competently.Lastly, I feel compelled to mention the shop's cramped and claustrophobic ambiance. As soon as you open the front door, you're immediately confined to a small, cramped space, which is where you'll be communicating with the shop owner. This only adds to the overall unpleasant experience and further reinforces my decision to seek assistance elsewhere.Overall, I cannot recommend Johnson Cycles in Stalybridge based on my unfortunate encounter. Their lack of expertise, dismissive attitude towards newer technologies, and false advertising make them an unappealing choice for anyone seeking reliable, knowledgeable, and customer-oriented service.

Cycling nearby with my two sons, I thought there was a problem with one of the boys chains. We jumped off the canal and popped over to the shop and asked if the man could take a look at it for me. He was very friendly, inspected the bike and checked that it was all in working order (which it was after all). He offered to spray some oil on the chain as a precaution which I kindly accepted. He did all this free of charge! Great service, will definitely be going back to the shop for our future repairs and servicing. Love shopping local, highly recommended! Thank you.

Great service and advice from the owner. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Took my new mountain bike in for a repair to the gears and the issue was sorted at a fair price. Would recommend.
