Can't say enough good things about this shop. To take nothing away from Voltaire & Rousseau and Thistle Books, which are both fine shops in their own right, Caledonia Books is the jewel in the crown of the West End bookshop trinity. Fairly priced, fantastic selection across a whole range of genres, high turnover so there's always something new, perfect layout (ever so slightly jumbled while still being neat and ordered), knowledgeable and helpful staff. Truly the bookshop lover's bookshop.

I made a detour for this bookshop and was not disappointed. It's small but brimming over with really cool finds - and really well organised despite the number of books per square foot. The owner (I assume) was really helpful and knowledgeable, too!

I would have given this shop 5 stars but it appears that second hand/antiquarian bookshops are exempt from usual customer return policies. I bought a book, took it home, took it out of the brown paper bag solely to send a photo to my son. I was buying it for his birthday. Turned out he had it. Owing to work and other commitments I took it back after 13 days. I could not exchange it even though I was proposing to spend more money.

It’s a lovely used book store with lots to discover and dig through. It’s on a street with plenty coffee shops and food places so makes for an excellent stroll on an afternoon :)
