Abbot's Wood | Forestry England | Located near Polegate, Abbot's Wood is a great place for a stroll at any time of year, with walking trails, a medieval lake, play area, barbecues and picnic tables. This ancient woodland is teeming with wildlife. Dormice live in the woodland understory and the extensive network of paths is home to nearly thirty species of butterfly, including the rare pearl-bordered fritillary. In early spring, the extraordinary song of the nightingale can be heard and summer evenings could reward you with encounters with bats, glow worms and the sound of the elusive nightjar.

Abbot's Wood
Great place to walk our dog, especially in the hot weather. Plenty of shade and a lake and streams for her to cool down in. Beautiful arrays of wildflowers and wildlife to match- butterflies, birds and deer. Can get muddy in the wetter weather, so wellies can be handy off the beaten track.

Lovely walks and mostly defined pathways, great for dogs. Good restroom facilities and nice picnic tables and areas available . Shame the ice cream van is not electric/eco friendly - he spits out exhaust fumes all day I to the fresh air - not pleasant

An absolute gem. A quiet outpost of serenity that lets you escape the hustle and bustle and spend a little time tree bathing instead. Especially beautiful in the mid spring time when the woods come alive with a carpet of bluebells and wood anemones.

A total surprise as there is a huge car park and space set aside for picnics and a kids play area. An extensive pattern of broad, partially metalled rides as well as woodland trails to the lake, with bluebells and wood anemones in spring. There’s a ‘Coffee Taxi’ on hand and public toilets. Popular with families with kids.

Lovely place to explore with our dog, plenty of shaded areas and lots of woodland trails that our dog loved. A good few picnic benches,a very friendly and nice ice cream van taking cash or card. toilets, dog bins, £2.50 cash to park for a couple of hours. A nice way to spend a late afternoon visit.

Nice trails, well-kept main paths. Really enjoyed the walk around, some parts of the woods is really quiet.

The perfect place to go for a walk with the family or a just a casual dog walk. Its quite easy to get lost as we were not familiar with the area but enjoyed it nonetheless - it would be nice to see more sign posts! You get a real feel for nature here, its very peaceful and great way to spend a couple of hours.

Great walk round with lots of different paths to take. Dog friendly. The lake is very pretty and there is some fantastic old trees. There is lots of parking space but it is expensive. Also make sure you keep your parking ticket. Their system is clearly not working properly or outdated. I received a fine but had payed to park that day. Luckily I kept my ticket. Their cameras said different and I received a very rude and abrupt letter.
