Not open at specified times and no sign as to why? Looks nice from the outside though but would be good if they updated open times.Time visited: 15:30, Sat 3rd Jun 23

Nice to see the oldest house in Inverness. Clean, tidy, staff were nice. It's free to get in. There's only the one room open to the public but there's enough information in that room to tell you about the history and living conditions during its lifetime.

There's really not much to see - just one room but it is free. The guide was great and really helped to tell the story of the place. The information on the displays was interesting and helped me to gain a better understanding of how the house fitted in with the local history and the history of Scotland. There's not much else to do nearby though. We went on a wet Monday. We parked in the nearby multi-storey carpark which was busy but reasonably priced. I wouldn't be going back just for this.

Great tourist potential in the oldest house in Inverness. Downstairs is nicely restored, but the upstairs needs restoration before we can see it.

26.9.22 Really disappointed. Came to Inverness to visit Abertarff House. Despite checking website on day to ensure opening hours, we were told at door that House was not opening today. We were turned away along with a group of American and Australian tourists who had come to visit. Would be useful if website reflected actual opening times.

Abertarff House, Inverness's oldest building built in 1583, this is the oldest house in Inverness. Originally constructed as the townhouse of the famous Frasers of Lovat, the building is a good example of crow-stepped gables, known locally as “corbie-steps,” corbie being the Scots word for crow. The building was restored in the 1960s and currently houses offices. There is a well known bench outside, perfect to rest your feet after walking around the city.

The volunteer here is knowledgable and I learned a lot about the city other than a history of a house. The pannal of fireplace inside the building echoes the one which is now o top of the outer wall, and many other things.

Great little museum, the staff member was extremely knowledgeable. I know much more about the history of this area than I knew before.
