Excellent care home ! Friendly caring staff.I have worked at Westlodge for a long time all the staff always go the extra mile to ensure residents are happy and well cared for .

My Mum spent her final week here and I can not believe how bad an experience we have had. She was admitted into hospital very unkempt with fecal matter behind her fingernails after spending only 1 week there after a long hospital stay. No visits facilitated due to one excuse after another. No time for phone calls and the calls we did have, the staff were extremely rude and spoke about my Mum like a body in a bed. The list of complaints is endless. A week after her death I still have not received a phone call to discuss my concerns or to offer condolences. Absolutely disgusting and very upsetting treatment of a lovely lady.

I feel privileged and comprehensively experienced in speaking about West Lodge Care Home as my father in law spent the last 7 years of his life living and being cared for there, before recently passing away peacefully in his own room there surrounded by nothing but love and compassion from the staff who had grown to know, understand and love him like a family member.My father in law was living in another part of the country and suffered a stroke which left him immobile and none verbal and with some daily nursing care needs. We were thankfully recommended West Lodge as the best care in the region, and in the whole duration of the last 7 years of all our interactions and experiences with them we believe that being “the best in the region” is an understatement, they must be one of the best ran care homes in the country!My father in law could have been considered vulnerable being none verbal, but on the contrary every member of staff (not just his care staff) developed an understanding of communicating through basic signs and affirmations with him. He was never forgotten or left out due to his lack of language, he was included in everything. Staff at West Lodge all took the time to learn about my father in law and understand the person he was before he became unwell.My father in law was able to carry on, with dignity, being the man he always had been due to the inter personal care he received from West Lodge.The level of professionalism, administratively, medically, socially, domestically, is outstanding. West Lodge has a very low turn over of staff, which is quite unusual within the care profession, but hugely beneficial to all residents and equally their families. The continuity of care staff for my father in law helped him settle and feel “at home” throughout 7 years, it absolutely creates a sense of family.My father in law did not go into hospital for end of life care, he stayed in his own bed in his own room at West Lodge, with ourselves and all his wonderful care staff there with him. The compassion and care he (and ourselves) were treated with during that time was a fitting end to the outstanding and “second to none” professional yet loving personal care that he had always received from West Lodge.Our elderly or unwell loved ones are always precious to us and making the decision and having to take the daunting step of residential care for them can be emotionally overwhelming, but our long standing experience of care at West Lodge was totally positive and turned out to be the best decision for all of us.Thank you West Lodge for being such wonderful friends to Bryn, and to all of us.

Cannot fault this home,the quality of care provided witnessed cannot be reckoned with not only is the care fantastic but also the facilities such as meal times and activities for all the residents is up to the highest standard! I cannot thank the staff enough for how high and beyond these people for the care they provide!☺️

The care my gran received at this care home was appalling, for family's to think that staff are fully trained when really they couldn't pick up a major stroke my gran had in there care and to leave that person for days for our family to be told it was a water infection, by time they decided was time to go to hospital it was for to late my gran had lost her speech and wouldn't eat, my gran suffered for weeks and later died, if medical attention was given straight away she may of been Ok but as a family we will never know

Appearances can be deceptive and in west lodge's case this is so true, it's not until you have to go to another care home (hallgarth, durham) that you find out what caring really is

My dad was at West Lodge for 18 months before his dementia took real hold of him and he had to go to an emi registered home before he died, but I have to say that I couldn’t have had him any where better.So much so that my mam is now resident at West lodge where she is very well looked after and has bounced back from some very serious illnesses which could of easily had a much different result if it wasn’t for the staff within the home looking after her.

My uncle lives their as a Resident. Good staff modern residential home.

Was an ok home but deteriorated during Covid. Not impressed. This is an update from my original post

My mam has been in West lodge for 2 years and I can't thank the staff enough for the excellent care she receives. Your always made to feel welcome and staff are always friendly and are happy to help the cleaness of West lodge is to a high standard and the food is beautiful. I would like to Thank all of the staff at West lodge for always going the extra mile .
