The India Cross

Good looking decoration but that’s all not sure on why it was erected considering the castle and all it’s history is on the same stretch

Interesting enough to draw my attention to it as we walked along the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade. It gets lost here. It commemorates the men of the 78th Highlanders who died during the Indian rebellion or Mutiny of 1857-1858. Per news articles, in November 2020, Edinburgh Castle replaced the signage with one that was more “accurate and balanced” after a visitor said the sign was “too celebratory of the British and dismissive of the Indian forces.” Castle bosses agreed that the sign “pandered to imperialism” by describing the British soldiers who fought in the Siege of Lucknow as “heroes”.

One of the many surviving proofs of how the British even today take pride in the loot, plunder, maiming, brutality and barbarism they committed in their envious attempt to have the wealth that the Indians amassed through trade over millennia.They still use the word “mutiny” on their signage even after replacing a sign because even today they do believe that the “dirty brown Indians” should’ve listened to the gun-wielding colonial master and not revolted.Everyone must visit this and see what the “liberal democracy” that the UK claims to be, celebrates.

The historical connotations for the Cross are not great as its a celebration of colonialism but as a piece of art its interesting
