My dealings with Ashir and Jamal to date have been absolutely first class, and offer great comfort when you realise that you are being looked after by people who know what they are doing. Approached the business for tax planning advice after attending a seminar that impressed. However dismayed by the advice received as it completely missed expectations from the brief.Several taxes were discussed as needing mitigating (IHT/CT/IT/LBBT). Had i followed through with the advice the result would have at best led to being no better off. At worst a significantly higher tax bill as the advice focussed on mitigating only one form of tax.Issues over professional competence continued as much of the advice predicated on English Law which was unsuitable for a Scotland based client. Following through with the recommendations could have led me to legal as well as tax risks.The initial complaint, instead of looking to resolve the issues identified in detail, was swiftly escalated to threats of taking me to court with the intent to bankrupt me (after only 2 exchanges) and threats of defamation charges. Attempts to find alternative angles to address the issue were blockaded by the presence of a non disclosure agreement and their refusals to consider 3rd party mediation.In hindsight what is being offered is a one size fits all tax product as opposed to a carefully planned and tailored solution that actually fits your needs and circumstances. Thank goodness i have the working tax knowledge to call it and recognise it for what it was. Had i followed up with the advice" the consequences would have been disastrous.Some closure was gained insofar as a final meeting with the senior tax partner was amicable and recognition of missing the brief acknowledged.Needless to say this overall experience was brutal and something I have never seen in the professional services sector. I cannot comment for their investigation service but certainly from the tax planning side i would recommend steering well clear. Sad as this is a complete u turn of the initial impression i had from some years ago.Make use of the £10k+ i have ultimately ponied up to close off the saga and learn for free from someone who learnt the hard expensive way."
