A fabulous place to stop and enjoy the view. The Heron was warm and welcoming on a cold December afternoon. We really enjoyed the blazing log fire and friendly staff, who laughingly assured us it never snows in Cornwall..,..the day before a snow blizzard. We didn't dine here as such but enjoyed a couple of drinks with some cheesy chips all of which were good, before walking back to Truro. If it had been just a little warmer We would have loved to sit outside on the lovely terrace overlooking the river but we look forward to that on another visit

Exquisite establishment, highly recommended. Locally sourced fresh food (there is a board that advertises how many miles the food has travelled, generally less than 20) of the highest quality combines to make some delicious dishes, many of which are seafood based. Specials menu and cocktails are available, as well as st austell brewery beers and ciders. Very well priced for high end meals like this. Service is exceptional, food arrives quickly, you are attentively and proactively checked to see if new drinks are required, etc. Stunning location on the estuary, outdoor, covered and heated seating is available. The car park fits 8x cars absolute maximum so plan your trip and peak times, there is some on road parking as well but again can be busy.

Lovely pub grub - mainly. We had the fish platter which was generally very good- the whitebait was overcooked. We also ordered the Cornish scallops to accompany it. For £12 we got three very small scallops in their shells. The dressing was tasty but the portion was very poor value. The staff are really nice and I couldn't fault the service.I love the picture showing the mileage to local suppliers

Brilliant. Great welcome to enter, quick to find a place, lots of tables pre booked but some lovely tables over the road to see the view. Great beer on tap and even Lucky Saint 0.5% so very freshing. Had fish and chips sandwich for lunch, nice.

Lovely part of the country... I left Truro and got more and more impressed with the view and scenery... Arrived at the Heron and mightily impressed .. easily pay £12 for a full English in my town for a indistinguishable plate of food but here was good to great food. Very impressed gorgeous location will be back.Edit: I did return and went early again same as before the time we waited a long time for food which came out cold my poached eggs were cold which for me makes them not edible. I did raise the issue, the bar staff offered to cook another but we had things to do and had already dedicated enough time to the breakfast part of my day. It was disappointing but all else remains lovely location, good produce. I will go again this time will ask upfront for heat and allow more time.

I visited the Heron Inn for a Christmas Lunch and was really pleased. The atmosphere is nice and cosy, with pleasant lighting, wooden furniture, a real fire.Having had some less-than-amazing experiences with other establishments recently, I was pleased to see that they offered a vegan option for each of the 3 courses (side note: it's crazy that in this day and age this isn't standard). Yes, there was only one option for each, but they had clearly had thought put into each of them; they were proper dishes, not just placatory afterthoughts or a boring burger variant. *Yawn*Each of the courses was really good... with the possible slight exception of dessert. The chocolate ganache was great, and so was the lemon sorbet... but I'm really not sure they belong together. All in all, a great venue which I'll be recommending to friends, and visiting again in future.[Pictured are the starter and dessert. I ate the main before I remembered to snap it]Update: Visited again (also pictured). Hummus was a bit overpriced for what it was, but banana blossom fish and chips was tasty and a good size.

Worth 4 stars for the view alone. Excellent breakfasts and whilst the service was a little slow (we weren't in a hurry anyway) the people were lovely. Thought the fry up was a little overpriced, then it turned up and I can call confidently say it was worth every penny! Parking was a bit of a pain, and nervous drivers/owners of big cars might want to think about a walk up as the road is pretty tight and we had to park 5 mins down the road. If you're in Truro, it's a no brainer.

Great food, lovely view, friendly staff, what's not to like. Quite sheltered sitting on the verandah and a great view. We had the fish sandwich and veggie burger, very nice.

We were an impromptu walk-in on a sunny Saturday afternoon and had to wait all of 5 minutes on a scenic bench outside in the sunshine overlooking the river, hardly a hardship by any means! The staff greeted us at the door ,were child friendly, polite and happy to chat while still leaving us to eat in peace ( which let's face it , nobody wants a hovering staff member asking how your food is when you have a mouthful!) when our food arrived. There was a 45-minute wait on food. We arrived at 2.30pm, having just missed the massive lunch rush, but other dinners were still leisurely enjoying their drinks at their tables and not being hurried out to make space. It was very busy but not in any way stressful. The front of house staff were managing customers really well, and the general atmosphere was chilled and very enjoyable. There was a good selection of vegan dishes, and our food was delicious. The screens between tables STILL, even after covid restrictions have been lifted, show that this business is intent on putting every aspect of their customers' experience first and foremost. As a person shielding previously, this was actually really heartening to see ( thanks you guys!)All in all, we loved our visit, the perfect end to a lovely day. We'll be back soon.Congratulations again on your success, your award was definitely well deserved!

Great place for a bowl of soup and a beer /coffee after walking our dog. Fantastic views. Beer wasn't the best (Tribute) pipes need cleaning as a little flat with yeast floaters.... But the food and service great
