Exploring Mid Wales is a top notch travel experience for all ages. Owner and tour guide Rob found a way to connect with each of us (traveling as a family group of 15 ranging in age from 9 to 71). Rob found activities to appeal to all ages, sharing an authentic experience in Wales -- pubs, hiking, canoeing, tea, festivals, historical sites, archeology, and more! Wales itself is a breath of fresh air in this busy world and a wonderful spot for vacation. I've traveled the world, but thanks to Rob one of my favorite places will always be the quiet beauty and charm of Mid Wales and the River Wye. I can't recommend Exploring Mid Wales more highly!

Wednesday (Classic Wye): Although Goodrich Castle was a “must see” for us, we think most tourists would enjoy visiting the castle as we did. The view from Symond’s Yat was a highlight and we enjoyed doing the hike— it felt good to stretch the legs and the ferry/lunch spot was a great place to have a midday rest. For us former English majors, visiting the bread and cheese rock and having a dramatic reading of a bit of Wordsworth’s poem was very special. We think any lovers of literature or poetry would be especially pleased with this spot. And finally, Tintern Abbey is a memorable way to end the tour.Friday (Mid Wales): Eardisland was a good stop early on — so beautiful--- and we found the black and white dwellings very interesting. Driving through the Elan Valley and thereabouts gave us a good feel for such a wild and interesting terrain. The lunch stop was super and we hope that the restaurant stays open so you can continue to have it as a stop on the tour. Since we like churches, stopping at the extraordinary St. Gwrthwl’s Chuch was a highlight. We also loved the stop at the Shakespeare theater ——— it would be very interesting to anyone with a love of the bard. For both days, your knowledge of the areas and commentary were excellent in helping us get a feel for the places. And Joan is very sorry for doubting your ID of the robin—— later ID’s confirmed yours (they’re just so different from American robins!).

If you want a stress-free, information-filled, tailored-to-your-specific-interests visit to Wales, you won’t find anyone better than Rob to guide you through. We gave him our general interests and in two days he gave us all we asked for and much more. Take advantage of his his detailed knowledge of the countryside, history and lore, not to mention his cooking! We’ve done a lot of private tours in various countries and can say without reservation, you won’t find a better guide in Wales. Like spending the day with your favourite cousin.

I had two great days with Rob, exploring the Black Mountains and the Wye River area near Hay. Rob provided transportation and a wonderful picnic lunch, along with morning tea and homemade cakes along the river. He tailored the hikes to my needs, and he was a bountiful resource of local lore, trees, and history. The second day was a group excursion, and we visited a land trust farm using traditional methods of farming in the morning, and in the afternoon we hiked a beautiful trail through a valley along a river. Again, everything was planned well, and Rob provided all the planning necessary to make for a great day. I highly recommend Rob. He’s well organized and more than willing to build a trip around your interests. If you want to explore mid Wales, he offers a great tour. Carol Dines

We were in Wales July 4-5, 2017 and hired Rob through a tour search. We had a rather over optomistic variety of goals: seeing the area some of my ancestors lived in, exploring various cultural experiences - primarily food and drink - LOL!Rob did a great job putting together the vast majority of our requests, found us a lovely place to stay overnight and even suggested a course of action to rectify a major transportation blunder I made, that ended up working out very well!Rob is well researched and informative and made well conceived suggestions to out itinerary. He took us to beautiful places off the beaten track. Heartily recommend Rob without any reservation.

I toured with Rob for 2 days, studying the castles and history of Mid Wales. He is a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide and tailored the tour to suit my needs. He is very well organized, but flexible at the same time. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone interested in the wonderful history and scenery of Mid Wales!

We really enjoyed our personal tour with Rob. He was an amazing host and taught us a lot about Wales and its culture. Rob took us to some wonderful spots that we probably wouldn’t have discovered on our own. Our experience with his tour was unique and special. Thank you very much Rob.

This tour wasn't just about J.R.R Tolkien and how Wales inspired him to write the best story ever written. Being from North Wales this was the perfect opportunity for my partner and I to explore so much more of Wales, our country. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us Rob!
