Great for those interested in history.The guides are dressed in period garb and are helpful and amusing.The story of Mathilde who escaped the her prison in the tower and skated across a frozen lake in home made skates was fascinating!!Stairs to the tower not for the feint of heart, or those who are claustrophobic.Story of Mary Blandy and the poisonous cake are well told and give you food for though.Probably for the ten plus though since there are scary elements .

Really enjoyed the tour and going up and around the mound, not to badly priced. Would have been nice to have been given enough time going round to take pictures of everything, did feel a little rushed in places...

I recommend to every visitor to do the tour: it was worth it!The tour guide Emily was amazing, well prepared, nice and super firendly, she explained the story of the castle and the prisons wearing an historical dress and interpreting her role with so much passion that me and the others felt like jumping into the past of this place.

Lovely to see inside the former prison. Hotel rooms are the former cells. Lots of restaurants and easy access to city center and university sights.

The Oxford prison was so interesting. Our guide Katie was so engaging. It was such a neat experience. A must do for history lovers.

We visited on the first tour of the day which was nice because our group was small, our guide was great, she was friendly and informative. We got lots of historical info about the former residents and inmates of the castle/prison. Once you have finished the guided tour you can go back and visit any parts except the tower which you climb first. The gift shop was good and again the staff were really friendly. Alot of the former prison is now a hotel, but you can still walk around the grounds and the old exercise yard. If visiting Oxford a trip here is definitely recommended.

Place worth visiting. It has a historical importance. One must take the guided tour which is around one hour and one can spend valuable time in tbe museum too.Unfortunately we is could not undertake one due to paucity of time.Will catch up during my next visit and post an update.This ace must find a ace in a tourist's itinary.

This was a very informative tour with a great tour guide (jack).we enjoyed the castle and the history and everyone was friendly.i would recommend booking slot in advance as we had to wait an hour for a tour space but it wasn't an issue because there is lots to do very close.
