York Cocoa House

A living breathing chocolate factory, shop and cafe in one and a must for any chocolate lovers visiting the chocolate city.We booked on to the excellent tour of the York coco house. Credit to our guide Josh who was superb at telling us about how they source the cocoa beans directly from individual farms, walking us through the various manufacturing processes from bean to bar and of all the processes among the way. Which were fully visible through glass windows and walls on site.Highly recommend. And the chocolate is delicious.After the tour we received a 10% discount on site purchases.

Being in York the home of chocolate decided to visit York Cocoa Works - liked the fact that you could see the staff making the chocolate on site. They do tours for £9.50 Adults £5.50 Kids, but I decided just to try the cafe and browse the chocolate in there shop.Being a fan of the legendary Terry's chocolate orange, I could not resist to try there orange hot chocolate. Was Amazing!!!! and such a bargain for £3.45 plus you get a taster of there chocolate. It's an adult version 50% Orange chocolate, indulgent, silky, creamy and a lovely balance of orange and chocolate.They do various cold and hot drinks, cakes and sundaes using there products. The shop also stocks chocolate and hot chocolate made on site, so you can also take home with you.There is various price points in the shop starting from £2.50 which is very reasonable, knowing that it is made on site and is all high quality products.Some of the other chocolate shops in York are tourist traps with chocolate not even from York, so it was a real joy finding this hidden gem.

York is littered with great places to stop for a drink. But it's great to find one with excellent coffee, really knowledgeable service, and chocolate that makes you light-headed with delight... is a boon!

Very nice dark hot chocolate. It was served with two delicious apple chocolate truffles.The milk chocolate bar is fine. Very nice employees. Prices are medium. I like how we can see the chefs while they’re making the chocolate through the glass.

Cafee is cute and good service.But we went for chocolate factory tour,But all they show is some photos and some machines via glass window,great for kids.Not for adults for sure.

As a cafe this place is amazing with the plethora of CHOCOLATE options it gives. The cookie and brownies were amazing simply because of the chocolate and not in the nature of the dessert itself. The chocolate being freshly made there has its added perks to the amazing time a chocolate lover could have here.Coming to the chocolate manufacturing and tasting (in May 2023 - the time I visited it) it costs nearly £10 per person. On the whole the experience was nice - not great - but worth the knowledge for people interested. However the cost to experience and tasting ratio is something I would question, but credit the idea put forth by the staff and workers of the Cocoa works.I would recommend to try it, surely for chocolate lovers, but also for people who are interested in the chemical gastronomy of chocolate or even would like to simply learn about it. I would not recommend it for children as the chocolate is not the sweet type we generally give kids (though it is served as a piece in the platter) it has more of the darker and intense flavours that kids may not like.Personally I loved the experience.

Brilliant, we did the chocolate bar making after we had coffee in their little cafe. The staff were very friendly and informative, and we came away with a bar of chocolate that we made ourselves well recommended.

Lovely guy to speak with, beautiful place to admire how some things are done. They got a tidy and clean place. Inside and outside you have tables to sit, relax and enjoy a good hot chocolate. Lots of Chocolate flavours. Thank you guys ⭐️

BEST HOT CHOCOLATE EVER. This is the tastiest drink I have ever had ! I could not recommend this amazing place more. So satisfying and tasty. You can choose you percentage of chocolate and they melt it for you. They also offer European style hot chocolate and chocolate shots.
